Interesting article in the Daily Mail showing a couple of toerags in Essex stealing a BMW from someone s driveway using some sort of wireless range extender.

I guess we are just as vulnerable to the same type of attack?

Nothing new there. This technique has been known for quite a while. However, with the PHEV the key needs to be physically inside the car to be able to steal it. I have the impression (but I may be wrong) that it uses a passive chip.
In the end, all electronic systems can be hacked. The only real theft protection is the Bearlock steering column lock.
