Is public station charge worth doing and if so with whom?

So now I am settled with my new PHEV I am wondering about charging away from home. But I can't see that it is worth it for me.

My batteries will take about 9.5KwH in charge, and I understand the fast charge stops at 80% so 7.6Kwh on a fast charge. Means a free charge is worth around £3 of petrol. Polar charge £7.85 a month so I would need to charge at least 3 times a month to use them. I don't think I will achieve that, so at most it might be worth taking a 3 month trial if we go on a touring holiday.

Pod point looks a better bet but as far as I can see I would need to buy a type 1 to type 2 cable and a full charge will take 2-3 hours. That cable will cost about £120 so that needs 30 full charges before it is paid for even if the electricity is free. And 3 hours in Sainsburys may be more than a man can stand.

Can anyone advise me if my reasoning makes sense, and are there any suggestions as to how it might be worth doing anything other than charging at home?

Best wishes

Adrian

Yes, your reasoning makes sense :)

Definitely - unless the electricity is free or close to free, public charging stations seldom make sense for a PHEV because it simply cannot take on enough charge.
