found a great in-depth article:

As the Geneva Motor Show unfolds; Mitsubishi UK launches an Outlander PHEV reservation site, pre-orders continue to explode in the Netherlands, a 'Commercial' Outlander PHEV is coming to the UK later this year, and a few new specs are revealed!

While Mitsubishi has focused most of it's attention at the Geneva Motor Show on it's two new concepts, the GR-HEV Sport Utility Truck and CA-MiEV compact EV, new details on the Outlander PHEV were also quietly revealed for those willing look hard enough. After painstaking effort, I am pleased to bring you all the latest Outlander PHEV scoop exclusively from Inside-Outlander.

Mitsubishi UK Launches Outlander PHEV Reservation Site
Lance Bradley, Mitsubishi UK's Managing Director, confirmed the Outlander PHEV will be making it's way to the UK later this year, although an exact release date has not been announced.

We expect to have it on sale sometime later this year, we’ll get it as early as we can. Demand in Japan, where it was launched in January, has been enormous, way more than we expected.

Bradley calls the Outlander PHEV a "Game Changer" adding that he expects it to massively change the market for SUVs in the UK. As Bradley explains, it's the first plug-in hybrid that's uncompromising.

It’s going to be the first (plug-in) hybrid that’s not compromised. If you want an ultra-efficient SUV, there are no compromises with this vehicle. We’re very excited about it. Every now and then you get a vehicle come along that really does change things for a manufacturer and we think that this could be it.

Although pricing for the UK has not been announced, the Outlander will qualify for a £5,000 electric vehicle grant according to the Mitsubishi site. Bradley indicates that the PHEV will be priced quite competitively in that market. In fact, in speaking with What Car, he says the PHEV could account for up to 50% of Outlander sales in the UK. What Car projects the PHEV version will cost around £30,000 after the £5,000 low-carbon grant (or roughly $44,800 USD).

Bradley tells What Car that "When you take the purchase price and the running costs into account, it is about the same amount over a three-year period for the diesel as it is for the PHEV." For reference, the current top-of-the-line Outlander 2.2 DI-D GX5 Automatic (Diesel) runs £34,000 in the UK.

Part-Electric Outlander 'Commercial' PHEV Coming to the UK
FleetWorld has reported that Mitsubishi is also preparing to launch a Commercial version of the Outlander PHEV in the UK later this year. According to FleetWorld, the commercial version is sold primarily to specialist fleets. This version will be converted in-house in the UK, adding a flat load area with a bulkhead. The windows will also be either coated or replaced with metal panels.

Lance Bradley tells FleetWorld that "The Outlander PHEV will be a strong proposition for fleets due to the low tax considerations for company and driver." He adds that Mitsubishi is aiming for Total Cost of Ownership parity with the diesel model. The present diesel Outlander Commercial costs about £25,000.

That’s a challenge because we’re not famous in the fleet market, so we’re not necessarily the first port of call for a tax-efficient vehicle. We’re working now on promoting that to the fleet market to show them how good it is.

Booming Sales in the Netherlands
A couple weeks back we reported that at least 2,500 orders were already on the books in the Netherlands, with potentially as many as 3,500. Just a few days later, Amsterdam's De Telegraaf claimed close to 4,000 sales were confirmed. Then, a week after that, Autoblog reported that sales jumped by another 1,000 units, up to 5,000! Things are not slowing down. Dealers have been reported as selling upwards of 20 units per day and now forum members at Inside-Outlander are suggesting the total may be as high as 7,000!!

What's driving this insane sales surge? The Netherlands government is offering 0% bijtelling (aggregation or addition tax) for those fortunate enough to get their Outlander PHEV's delivered this year. And Mitsubishi may likely have already received more orders than it's factory can fill in 2013. Now folks are scrambling to place their orders in hopes that it's not too late.

Starting in 2014, the bijtelling goes up to 7%. How much of a difference does this make? It can cost the would-be owner 14,000 Euros or more over a 5 year period (about $18,000 USD). Some say this will cost them as much as 22,000 Euros (almost $29,000 USD).

This huge financial incentive is now driving huge sales in the Netherlands that Mitsubishi may not be prepared to handle.

New Specs Revealed
EU final homologation is still pending, but let's recap what we know so far. Combined fuel consumption is expected to come in at 1.9l/100km and CO2 emissions will be a low 44g/km. Electric range will be rated at 52km (32 miles) and total range will come in at 824km (512 miles), according to Mitsubishi. We also know that the European spec will benefit from better tires and an optimized braking system.

Mitsubishi issued a rather lengthy Outlander PHEV press release for the Geneva show. Few new details were shared, but there were a couple gold nuggets buried in the report.

Per previous accounts, Series Hybrid Mode will engage when the battery SOC (State of Charge) drops below a predetermined threshold. We now know that this threshold is set at 30%. This allows us to speculate at the usable capacity of the 12kWh battery pack. Assuming Mitsubishi uses an upper limit of 90%, the available capacity would then be 7.2 kWh.

I'm Impressed with Netherlands they are really jumping on that green living bandwagon hard.If Mitsubishi Outlander comes anything close to the Netherlands numbers anywhere else it's gonna be a smash hit for Mitsubishi no doubts about it. This PHEV SUV could really get Mitsubishi out of their money problems 'cause I'm sure the profit margins for this car are huge.

People really buy that an electric car should be twice as expensive as a normal gasoline car, which I don't think is truly the reality.I kinda think that the car makers are starting to milk it a little bit because they know that the competion is going to be huge later when the technology becomes even more available and the mobile industry makes even better batteries(graphene anyone?)

Holland's numbers are not solely because the Dutch are very eco-oriented but also because the tax on carbon emissions are huge so a PHEV vehicle is a great way to get around the extra tax, and luckily for Mitsubishi the Outlander just passed the line into no-tax territory because, if I understood it correctly, some PHEV vehicles don't pass the requirements.

And of course the huge government grant also helps.

I agree on the graphene point you made, once it becomes fully researched and easily manufactured we are going to see a huge shift not only in the automotive industry but in probably every industry in the area of electronics.

Wouldnt see why the Outlander PHEV wouldnt be a hit in the US. The US is slowly picking up on the benefits of an eco friendly commercial vehicle.

well the only reason of Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs failure would be if the competition sweeps the attention of the market. You must remember that Mitsubishi is by no means a great car maker in the eyes of the general public in the U.S.

There are great EVs that are coming in the near future that will rival Outlander in every aspect and some are even better(quality wise, not so sure price wise).
