Long journeys and no charge at the other end. I drive it like a normal car and don't fret about it. I bought it as a tax beneficial spend for my company against corporation tax and benefit in kind, so am ££££'s ahead regardless of the mpg.

The mitsu uk website says the 8 year 70% battery capacity warranty applies to my16 onwards. But someone here got them to confirm it also applies to an earlier model. Feeling frustrated at the lack of clarity as a few of us might need to make some claims on battery degradation...

It is also difficult to get battery reports here in the uk - they appear shrouded in mystery. If anyone in the uk has managed to get one could they please post a copy and how much it cost?

Interesting. Might have to take this up with Mitsu in Australia. According to the Australian website, the battery is covered for 5 years/ 100,000km from first registration, but it doesn't specify capacity limits.

Yes! had several dealer services and never had any battery data. I am increasingly highly suspicious that my battery is substantially down on power but no way to tell empirically.

In the US, the battery is covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles (150,000 miles in some states including mine). But it doesn’t cover normal degradation of capacity, and I can’t find any mention of a percentage of degradation that’s considered normal.

I had a quick look at Mitsubishi’s US .com website and could not find any PHEV battery specific warranty information. This is what is on the UK .co.uk website:

http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/new-cars/outlander/battery-warranty/

It may be that the US website has not yet fully caught up with all PHEV information or your warranty position may be different.

OK, so here was the text of my email to Mitsu Aus with regard to the battery

Hello, I am interested to know the main traction battery warranty details on the Mitsubishi Outlander. According the the Australian website you have a 5 year/ 100,000km warranty but it doesn't specify capacity limits. On the Mitsubishi UK website it states there is an 8 year/ 100,000 mile warranty on the main traction battery, with a guaranteed level of 70% after this time. Can you please clarify what applies to Australian vehicles.

And here's their predictably canned response. So it would appear that the UK gets a better deal!

Please accept our apologies for the delay in our response.

We can confirm the Traction Battery is covered for 5 yrs / 100,000km (whichever occurs first) warranty.

The battery in the PHEV is no different to any other battery and will deteriorate over time. It will deteriorate in proportion with the usage of the vehicle as battery life depends on the usage and maintenance of the battery when both in use and in storage.

Are you sure about that? I thought that the reply had been that the enhanced warranty was not being offered retrospectively.

Well, it appears to be correct! Just received this response to my email:

"Thank you for your e-mail.

I can confirm the below is correct and this relates to - Main traction Battery Capacity Warranty.

Kind regards,

Simon"

So now I'm really confused (either that or just a bit dim, in which case I'm really sorry 'cos I can be a bit dim sometimes) does this mean, despite earlier communication from Mitsubishi customer care to the contrary - that pre 2016 PHEV's do in fact have the same 70%/8 year/100,000 miles battery warranty as post 2016, or not as the case may be, probably?

I seem to remember the main dealer where I have my PHEV serviced was a bit vague about battery condition reports too. In fact I can't recall what they actually said when I asked about it - they must have distracted me in some devious way. I mean you wouldn't have thought it was that hard. In fact you'd have thought that this information would be viewable on the MMCS. Perhaps it is - hidden somewhere within the electronic depths.

I'm not sure about claims. 100.000 km are quickly gone, usually.

The UK drive battery warranty is 100,000 miles (160,000km) which seems fairly reasonable to me.

The question is really more what it guarantees? The original PHEV battery guarantee was against failure rather than degradation. They subsequently felt the need to specify a maximum level of degradation, but I don't think that was ever applied retrospectively to earlier vehicles.

As far as the UK goes, it was I who got an email (Safely archived!) from Mitsubishi UK stating that my 2015 PHEV was covered by their new traction battery warranty. I double checked that they understood it was a 2015 model and again they confirmed (this was after the previous assertion that the new warranty only applied to MY 2016). Here is the text of their email:

Thank you for your e-mail.

Further on from my e-mail below.

With regards to your model/year of the PHEV -

MMC warrants that the main battery maintains a Capacity of 70% or more, during a period of:
• 8 years from date of first registration of the vehicle, or 100,000 miles whichever comes first.

On customer complaint basis and in case the main battery Capacity is less than 70%, replacement of the main battery is covered by warranty.

I trust this is of assistance.

Kind regards,

Simon

Here's the 5th January 2015 UK press release regarding warranty: https://mitsubishi-media.co.uk/en-gb/releases/980
The small print at the bottom of the release:-
All vehicles across the Mitsubishi range now qualify for a five year warranty with a 62.5k mileage limit, except; the Mitsubishi L200 warranty will be 5 years / 125k miles (retail and small business only) and the condenser fan motor is limited to a 3 year/ 62.5k warranty on this model. Other commercial variants will have a 5 year /62.5k mileage warranty. The Outlander PHEV EV and ICE components are both 5 years /62.5k miles. Specialist vehicle warranty details tbc. Mitsubishi accessory warranty remains at 3 years. All vehicles have a 12 year anti perforation warranty. Note that 12v batteries and O2 sensors across all models are limited to 3 years/ 65.5k warranty. All injectors and glow plugs in all models are limited to 3 years/62.5k. All Shogun model condenser fan motors are limited to 3 years/ 62.5k.

Would my 64 plate (that specified 3 year warranty when we purchased it) heat pump that had to be replaced recently at £426.00 be covered?

Presumably 2phevs means the heater 'water' pump.

And presumably the car is now over 3 years old going on 4 years as the UK '64' plate runs from Sept 2014 to end of March 2015 (don't ask it's a long complicated story!). So only under warranty if the car was first registered after Jan 2015 when the 5 year warranty began.

2phevs - Check your registration document date to confirm the above.

Yep heater 'water' pump, unfortunately the 2 phevs were July 14 and November 14, interestingly I had to take it back because after the pump was replaced the coolant started leaking badly.

I phoned the Dealership, I was put straight through to the head of the department who said they needed to see it the same day if possible, I took it straight down there.

The guy came back an hour later, said that they took the 2 hoses off the unit under the car (front passenger side) cleaned the metal tubes and reattached the hoses with better clips.
He said to me that they have had to replace 2 pumps that week and have reported this to Mitsubishi as a potential modification (something to do with a gauze filter getting blocked), I said if there is a recall will I be reimbursed, he confirmed I would.

Unfortunately there is still a slight leak which I will get sorted when I've got a bit of time.

It would be worth checking your service booklet. My initial post regarding the warranty was before I bought one, but since then I've become the proud owner of a September 2015 GX-4H.

Page 2-1 of my service book has been stickered-over, the revised page states that the traction battery is covered for 8 years and 100,000 miles.
