Having just come back from southern Italy whilst towing the caravan with my 2016 PHEV - (with 2015 maps for some reason). I have to report that the éuropean' maps (especially for Italy) are sadly lacking. Numerous occasions found us flying across areas without roads and driving along roads which came to an end - although continuing on the screen.
I understand that the 2015 map would not account for recent changes, but most of the roads had obviously been there for ages. It was almost impossible to use in some areas and I reverted often to my phone.
There are also many other issues related to this satnav which I find unsatisfactory (too numerous to mention)

My question to this forum is that I would like to know if anyone has experience with or can recommenr a replacement head unit for this vehicle?

Well, I live in Europe and visit Italy regularly, but this is not my experience. Not surprising, as the supplied maps are by NavTeq, and are used in a considerable number of car brands. The only Mitsubishi-specific part is the interface, which you may like or not, personal preference.
However, if you ave 2015 maps, the data were collected in 2013 and 2014 - and possibly even earlier in the rural backwaters of Southern Europe- so you are well behind times and in need of an update.
The alternative is of course to use your smartphone. Google maps is the most recent you will find.

Yes , my phone (Sygic) was the first resort followed by my wifes tablet with google maps, Sometimes we had all three going to make sure the route was correct. From what you said about the updates being as far back as 2013 that makes a some sense. Definately need an update, but at around the £100 mark seems quite steep. Coupled with the satnav program being poor I was thinking money would be better spent on a different head unit. I had a 3rd party head unit in a focus for years using IGO satnav (free maps) and was really happy with it.
For the record we had trouble around Lyon, the north end of lake Como and parts of the A1 between Bologna and Florence didn't exist. Having to three point turn with a caravan is no joke.
Thanks for your interest

I can imagine. Before the PHEV I had Jaguars. The SatNav was reasonably good on the Continent, but in the UK it was worse than useless... Go figure! -The interface was 1990-ies though. :(
I must admit that the Mitsubishi UI took me more than a year to get used to, but by now it is fine.

I agree, the interface takes a bit of getting used to and actually has some good features. For instance, the scrolling list of coming motorway junctions and service spots was very useful. This was mainly because the woeful capacity of the PHEVs fuel tank needed watching very closely when towing the caravan. I occasionally had to get off and use the nearest petrol station feature (worked nicely)
I must admit I had a jerry can stowed for emergencies (used once) The 20mpg would drain the tank pretty quickly once the charge had bottomed out. Recharging on the French motorways was problematical and I stopped doing it after the cable was locked to the car and would not release!

Still no suggestions about a different head unit? :(

By some weird coincidence, I was fiddling with my map settings this morning.

Now the only restaurant icons that display are for Thai food.
