For anyone researching summer tyres - I’ve just bought 4 Vredestein SPORTRAC 5 which are rated b b and 69db. They were about £385 incl delivery from Camskill. My tyre man will swap them onto my original wheels next week.
I have Vredestein wintrac xtreme winter tyres and have been very happy with them - they were from Pneus Online complete with 16” alloys.
Cheers
H

Winter tyres are not just for snow - a common misconception. Thet are meant for any inclement weather below 15ºC. Don't tell me you don't get rain in winter in Western Ireland...
Oh yes we do and then some. I was saying I'm surprised the summer tires I was looking at had better wet grip than the all-weather ones we are talking about. I would have thought the opposite.

Had Michelin Crossclimates on for a month now and very pleased. My wife had no dramas in the recent snow. Prices seem to be down a little to under £150 a corner and Costco has another £50 off for 4 offer. Clearly they are more expensive than the Toyo or the Vred all-season I looked at but, in my view, worth it.

That depends entirely on the temperature; at 20 degrees maybe by a small margin, at 10 and lower it’s the other way around by a large amount.

Still making a decision on which tyres ot fit next. I came across this site on YouTube. Very well explained and British, so relates to our climatic problems.

Thanks for that link - I'd seen their site but not the videos on youtube. I think this video is the most useful for this thread as he goes into the differences between the various tyes of tyre before recommending one from each. TL;DR - the best all-season tyres are the Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons for heavy winters and the Michelin CrossClimates for milder winters (see here)

As an aside, Honest John's website used to recommend the Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons as an all-weather tyre, but he now recommends the Michelin CrossClimates, which is one of the reasons we've been using the latter almost since they came out...

Had to buy two new tyres when switching back to summer after finding a sidewall bulge not mentioned by Kwikfit when they did the summer to winter before Xmas and put the tyres covers on themselves. Able to get ex-demo Toyo R37 Proxes for £65 from Tyre Leader - about half price. Too good to resist, as I already have Proxes on the other axle. :D

Ending up getting Vredestein SPORTRAC 5s. Got a great price. After chatting with tyre guys I think it was a decent choice in the end.

Hi

This is a really useful discussion, My 2016 Phev has had the original Toyo 335/55/R18 tyres but after 30K miles, they are ready to be replaced. I would have replaced old for new but having read the various posts, I am not so sure.

If I upgrade, what are the alternatives?

I have had look on blackcircles and these seem quite good but I am open to suggestions.

Just had Quatrac 5 fitted and am very happy with them. Much quieter than toyos. Used http://www.oponeo.co.uk and had good experience however noticed that http://www.camskill.co.uk has them for under £100 per corner and 1 day delivery!
Quieter, more comfortable, better road-holding. Excellent in snow at -15ºC three weeks ago and the last few days just as good in the sun at +30ºC.

Thanks for you reply.

Ok, out of interest did you get a local garage to fit and load balance - good deal you found there tho? I will compare with say Uniroyal Rainsport 3 SUV 98Vs which can be fitted for £96 locally .

My dealer is a Profile Tyre Center as well. I confess that I did not really look too closely at the price, just at the specs and reviews and the advice given. They were considerably better value than the Michelin Cross-Climates, that I recall.
