Thanks ian4x4 - can't hurt to try even if others are septic. :)

Extracting useful data from your OBDII port

I bought a bluetooth ODB adapter. Then i paired this to my tablet. There's a few free ODB apps on GooglePlay, I can't remember off hand which one I picked. Lists all sorts of data you can look at, including real time, you can set up a little "dashboard" of gauges and dials to distract you from...

Yeah, there's where I'm at, or pressing the "telephone" button. See me do it! https://www.dropbox.com/s/88frc4w8og0pwom/2015-09-07%2017.17.55.mp4?dl=0

Nope. I press the "settings" button, pick "telephone", and it prompts me for a four-digit code. If I get it wrong, it dumps me back on the menu. Same if I approach it via the "bluetooth pairing" menu option.

I have a PHEV on hire whilst my own car is having some attention. I went to pair my phone with it - it asks me for a code! This is not the "bluetooth" code to match with the device as part of the pairing process. This is like a login to the screen where you can even start to look at the...

Well surely Regen brake settings can only *reduce* your MPG if you take your foot off the power too much and "brake" when you meant to "cruise". Then you have to speed up again which uses power. If regen braking and motor power were both 100% efficient, then that would be neutral - any speed...

If you haven't - Look Under the Bonnet

Mitsi website official specs say 40cm. I hope they would know. :) That;s actually MORE than the official spec for the Discovery, though that's to do with the breathers and stuff which are easily raised up.

Ah but it's nice to be able to "rest" the right foot occasionally ;) Yes, that's what cruise-control is for. But when you're in the middle of a 'situation', you won't be on CC. :)

If you haven't - Look Under the Bonnet

I see that had high level intake too. But I'm not sure I'd want to go wading given the drive battery pack and motors are all down quite low... anyone tried using one as a submarine yet? I know my Disco can go in up to just below the bonnet, due to raised breathers for the gearboxes, even without...

If you haven't - Look Under the Bonnet

Ahhh! Thanks for that. That certainly re-assures me! That's the sort of course I need to be able to get around - albeit I won't be doing it at rally speed any time soon, it'd be embarrassing to have to radio for recovery! :-) It also gives me an idea. I wonder how much it costs to 'wrap' a car...

Agreed, but if you dont' want the full B5 level of retarding, just don't lift your foot all the way off the pedal! :-)

Hmm. Might be an idea to make them "soft" and allow drivers to choose what they're configured for. I take your point about speed control in CC. My Astra, the buttons are on the end of the left stalk. Liz's Merc, there's a whole stalk dedicated to CC on the left of the steering column, so a quick...

If you haven't - Look Under the Bonnet

NO doubt. I have, actually, two land rovers. A Defender 90 for serious playing out in the forests and mountains, and a Discovery which is primarily road going. However, the Discovery does some jobs which require some 4wd capability, such as Response work when it's snowy, and also driving round...

So far I've only had a test drive. But I quickly decided that the sane setting was "B5". I have NO issues with lifting off the power causing retardation. I'm used to a land rover diesel, which at nearly 20:1 compression, slows down markedly if you lift off the power completely. (I note that the...

I guess that depends on your view of how 4WD should work. For lots of modern "Softroaders", 2WD is standard and adding power to the back wheels is what happens when things get out of hand. But for some of us, permanent four wheel power is the norm, and it seems entirely reasonable to push the...
