Here's the simple trick I use: Make a loop with the cable, pass the loop behind the branch of the rim. Position the padlock on the buckle (on one side of the rim branch) and the cable (on the other side of the rim branch).
I also have 4 Vredenstein Quatrac 5 on my '18 PHEV since 10k kilometers (mountain, city and highway) and I'm very happy with it. Good handling in dry, wet and snowy weather. I've not noticed an higher fuel or electrical consumption than the Toyo R37.
