Do not be scared of using that charge button.

I did not mean it literally as a passthrough but that going uphill with CHARGE pressed any surplus energy the generator may have available to charge the battery will be used by the motors imediatelly. I just mean to offer advice from my experience specially since I have collected so much from...

going uphill - EV Mode How far is that going to take you? Obviously it would deppend on how long the uphill stretch was vs battery capacity, but, with very few exceptions and assuming a relatively "round trip", the downhilldistance coasting with REGEN + CHARGE would provide enough battery...

@elm70: The mountain roads I travelled were very narrow and twisty, even though there was no traffic I seldom went over 50km/h. "Downhill with charge on and I guess max regen ... it sounds that that the ICE will start stop multiple times, and running for few seconds ... so it does not look...

Hello all, from my recent experience driving through mountain roads I advice the following: going uphill - EV Mode going downhill - regen + CHARGE mode using this method I averaged 1L/100 less than a Renault Scenic 1.5 diesel that did the same journeys I did. I also urge everyone to use...

Perhaps I should trust it (and I will), if I am doubtful of the system´s efficiency it's due to all the reports of low 30's mpg on the motorway without towing. A big suv is never going to be the ideal motorway car due to less than perfect aerodynamics but if you look at it it´s also not the...

Do not be scared of using that charge button.

Looking online I found "ev box tunning phev" this seems to be the answer for part of my wishes, totally disabling ICE under 130km h (and therefore series hybrid mode) when ECO is selected. If it also allowed parallel mode to start when you wish (regardless of SOC) it would be perfect. Any...

    TIP, TRICKS and MODIFICATIONS

Hello, I'm unsure this the right thread for this but here it goes: anyone tried evtech box on this forum? It allegedly tunes the accelerator so to avoid the ICE starting, converting eco mode in ev mode (for pre MY17). Has anyone know of any mods that can be done to the way the hybrid system works?

In the above circumstances I would much prefer to drive all the 60 miles @50mph in parallel mode (at an RPM the ICE should economical enough) and have the exact 80% for the final 20miles in town. Anyway we could "force" this behaviour?

Yes greendwarf that is what occurs when the revs go up in series mode, the battery is limited to 60kw total power so the generator (in tandem with the ICE) needs to make up the difference. Is there any way we could avoid in motion charging (generator) charging? Say you have 80% charge and you...

Thank you Anko. Indeed my query goes beyond the practical yes/no but regards the way the system works all together. I'm a mechatronics engineer and work in renewable energy hence the interest in efficiency beyond the monetary aspects. I am sold on the outlander phev because of the "car" but not...

My point stands, would you not rather have an adequate ICE+gearbox for efficient parallel operation rather than a serial hybrid? The point is the outlander phev is programmed to run on eletric as much as possible relying for that purpose on série hybrid charging which is inherently inefficient...

Ev only mode all current Phev cars have and I understand when it is more useful, ie town driving etc.

I ask this since although there are obviously some advantages in having pure ev four wheel drive for example overall it seems that the system with 2 eletric motors + generator + ICE tuned for in motion charging accomplishes little benefit with added complexity. Are there any real advantages in...

Thanks for all the clear up, I understand how the system works better now. All in all what are your thoughts on the PHEV's system and its ability to charge on the move vs something like Volvo's V60 plug in? From the research I've done it does no ICE charging instead it has an ICE which is...

Anko thanks for clearing that up! From what I gather the only improvement to MPG the driver can do is down to advance route planning both in average travel speed (motorway vs city) and geography (gradients) CHARGE - antecipate hills/heavy loads to ensure SOC is enough so the EV motor(s) can...

Hi greendwarf, I believe that at that speed (from somewhere in this forum) ICE RPM in parallel mode is around 3200 RPM meaning there should be plenty extra power in the ICE? My question though is whether the effect of CHARGE would be similar to that of turning AC on in a regular ICE only car. It...

Hello all, First post here, my name is Henrique from Portugal and I will be buying a PHEV in the next couple of months, most likely one of the first new shape (MY16). I have read through a great deal of posts here and I before anything would like to express my sincere thanks for the amount of...
