Owners in Europe testing the tow capabilities of the PHEV

If it is of any use to anyone, I have just completed a 2,700 mile (4 350km) trip through France towing a fully loaded 1450kg 2m wide and 7 metre long caravan (size affects 'drag factor') and got 23.8 miles per UK gallon -that's 11.87l/100km or 7.38l/100 miles (EU miles!). There was no huge...

    Towing mirrors fror PHEV

I recently bought a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and have been looking for extension mirrors to use whilst towing. Colt Cars, the manufacturers, do not recommend any specific ones as they 'have not been tested' and the size and shape of the car's mirrors make it difficult to fit most makes. This...

    Chargig from Low Current Supply

I tow a caravan in Europe and use sites with an electrical 'hook-up' system. The output of the 220V electrical supply points is sometimes limited to 16 amp and sometimes limited to 10 amp. The limit is 'enforced' by having a circuit breaker designed to trip at the 16/10 amp level in the circuit...

    Free reverse led

Following my previous post. I have a towbar and it just needed a second mounting plate for the LED lamp. I gave a ref for it on EBay on my previous post. I have just fitted the light unit and it was really quite easy. I did have to lengthen the lead supplied with the lamp -it was only about 10"...

    Snow Chains

Slightly off topic perhaps but I have just bought a PHEV and looked at chains because I have an unused set from my previous car (BMW 530D) and was hoping to be able to use then if needed on the PHEV. The requirement in the EU Owners handbook is to have a chain size of 9mm or less. I was in...

    Free reverse led

Found this on Ebay - search for 'UK 18/36/72W 1/2PCS LED Car Wrok Light Bar Spot Flood Truck Driving Roof Lamp' (Note Wrok spelling error on listing)- they 18W square ones look as if the mounting can be set up as a 'back fixing'. I have ordered one and will let you know if it works well.

    Free reverse led

I too am looking at a similar solution - attaching to towbar bolts and feeding via the 13 pin socket. A 'standard' towbar mount for a socket would fit opposite the 13 pin socket fitted to mine and would mount the lamp. Have you looked at any lighting units? Just about to start researching but...

    BP buys Chargmaster

Perhaps the answer might be to adopt the charging concept of the latest mobile phones and run powerlines beneath the roads. I gather some research as been done with the idea at 'places where they stop' for electric busses so it might be a goer in the end. Haven't a clue what the high magnetic...
