    Honda CR-V Hybrid

These links will explain it quite well. The last link is a video about the system, which is already on sale in some markets. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/all-new-honda-hybrid-drivetrain-under-development...

Tesla's answer to off-grid home charging

Is this the answer to solving the charging problem. http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/140997-tesla-solar-roof-everything-you-need-to-know With this back up battery perhaps it may work, although I would need a wind turbine feed to cover the non summer months.

Cost of replacement battery (Chevy Volt)

In light of previous posts about batteries, their life, and ongoing costs, I thought this article may be of interest. https://electrek.co/2017/06/12/gm-bolt-ev-battery-pack-price-cost/ I still think that battery range and replacement cost is a big query with PHEV (and EV vehicles), as well as...

    Zero Carbon World

Newly installed in a car park in Somerton, Somerset, I have seen 2 Electric Car spaces with a simple single outlet between them. No notice or anything, but the it has http://zerocarbonworld.org/ on a label. This is the first time I have heard of them.

    Summer-time! No PHEV for me...

Lovely car! Lucky man! Just out of interest, how cold does the air-conditioning get?

Techincal And User Docs That Everyone Should Have

I bumped this back up as it seems some old questions are reappearing and a lot of the answers were in the Technical Highlights Manual.

Interesting article on battery life (BMWi3)

This article had some interesting observations on measured battery life, although its about a 3 year old, 70,000 mile, BMW i3. http://www.bmwblog.com/2017/04/24/bmw-i3-long-term-battery-capacity-report-better-expected/

EV Priority mode in MY2017 - not (always) working

If the 'EV button' isn't to get around some odd pollution rule, and people appear to say the petrol generator still starts sometimes even when selected, what is the point?

EV Priority mode in MY2017 - not (always) working

Can someone please explain simply what the 'EV Priority' Button does and how does it differ from earlier PHEVs. I had thought that it was developed to give controlled 'EV only' running which was necessary in some states in the USA, and therefore stopped any petrol emissions. Is this a feature...

4WD system does not work, I chase Mitsu for solution.

Physically there is only so much power / torque that you can direct through either motor. This is quoted as the max power in the specification, and is as much as the wiring and control circuitry can handle. The PHEV is configured to have half its max power available on each axle, on the other...

    Maximum step height

Very interesting. This probably explains why wheel chocks are so efficient at stopping vehicles (and aircraft) from rolling away, even when engine testing. By the way, won't your one wheel calculations be effected by the "weight transfer" caused by the anti-roll bar.

Why charge the battery while driving?

The graph shown is very reminiscent of the graphs for BMEF (Brake Mean Effective Pressure) which used (and still is) to be a good guide of the power and efficiency of an Internal Combustion Engine. Below is a typical graph, but saying that, I can't find a graph for an Atkinson Cycle ICE, so am...

The Phev's electric drive motors and characteristics.

pasquinade The technical highlights manual on the above link is worth studying. Then the link below is where this motor design subject came up before, and illustrates that anko has gained superior knowledge of the system with his measurements. I have learnt a lot from his explanations...

4WD system does not work, I chase Mitsu for solution.

Thanks anko and trex. I will go away and do some reading. Something is very wrong when the rear axle (which has more rated torque than the front - 195 / 137 Nm) cannot either spin the wheels or move the car. I note that the Front Motor Control Unit (or RMCU) decides the final torque command...

4WD system does not work, I chase Mitsu for solution.

Thanks anko I have looked at your graphs and explanations again. On my initial reading I thought you were measuring the 'torque requested' at the ECU, can you explain (simply) to me if this is actual torque, or the 'target' figure requested by the ECU. It is hard to see, but I did try to expand...

4WD system does not work, I chase Mitsu for solution.

This use of engine inertial is not available in the electrically driven PHEV to get going. I still believe that the 'stationary' torque available is very limited, probably done to protect the motors/drive circuits. The burning smell of the clutch (or torque converter on automatic) should...

4WD system does not work, I chase Mitsu for solution.

Thanks for your calculations pasquinade Your reference to wheel diameters made me think of another problem that we may have on soft ground. Last week when moving an aircraft exhibit we accidently allowed a wheel to go onto the grass. Of course it sank slightly but caused us a lot of effort to...

4WD system does not work, I chase Mitsu for solution.

In the video clip below of the boat ramp, the rear wheels are stalled and not moving. http://www.myoutlanderphev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2676 I therefore believe that this is not a tyre problem, but a torque, or control of torque problem. Also I am not sure about how these motors work at...
