Re: Replacement 12v battery

I once managed to flatten the auxiliary battery on my PHEV which also resulted in the wipers going (when they weren't switched on) and absolutely nothing else working at all - not even the hazards. I've had similar experiences with the new Ford Kuga PHEV - the 12v battery goes flat within a few week...

Re: High Level Brake Light Replacement

I've taken my high level brake light and rear lights off several times to clean out the algae from the edges (clearly a design fault!) and it's very difficult to clean out. No failed LED's yet though. Getting the high level brake light out is very fiddly if you can't remember how to do it, which I'm...

Re: GX4h Driver's side door mirror malfunction

Hmm, well I've found a video on You Tube that demonstrates how to remove the door mirror assembly from the door, but as you say I doubt any of it is easily repairable. I'm thinking that the motor/mechanism that makes the whirring noise to open and close the mirror consists of some sort of nylon inte...

GX4h Driver's side door mirror malfunction

The driver's side (UK RHD) door mirror has just stopped fully opening on my 6 year old GX4h PHEV. I initially noticed that it wasn't in the fully open position and thought that somebody had knocked it half closed walking past, but then I realised that it wasn't opening fully in the first place. I've...

Re: Reset TPMS

Yep, that's what's inside the rim. The silver bit exiting the hole at the top of the picture is the base of the metal valve stem. There's a battery inside this black plastic bit and eventually it goes flat and can't be replaced.

Re: Reset TPMS

Yes, I just discovered that the park brake has to be applied on my UK 2014 GX4h for the 'setting menu' graphic to be available on the centre dash 'scroll through' options. Otherwise it just doesn't come up at all as an option. I've owned my GX4h for 4 years without knowing this! It took me around 15...

Re: Wheel Nuts

Well yes, if you have that most essential tool a telescopic wheelbrace (ie. extendable) then you undo the nut in the extended position and do it up in the 'closed' position. Can't go wrong really as in the 'closed' position (de-extended), with the strength of your average arm, it'll be around 100Nms...

Re: Wheel Nuts

Admittedly if you're not used to looking things up in reference books (a skill that doesn't seem to be taught at school so much), then it helps to know how to start:' Well enjoy it while you can - new Fords (especially Fiestas) are increasingly not having an owner's manual included anymore. So you ...

Re: Parking Brake Adjustment

Well if the calipers were replaced recently as recall, the dealer shouldn't charge anything to make them work properly, as they should have done that in the first place. Especially as the recall is to solve any chance of the handbrake not working - I'd take it straight back.

Re: Burning clutch smell

Don't burning brake pads smell a bit like burning clutch plates? The infamous burning rubber smell smells like burning rubber to me, not like a burning clutch would - if there was one to burn. Has your particular vehicle had the rear calipers replaced as result of the infamous handbrake recall? With...
