Though I have a 2018, I don't think it's much different with the 2020. In Charge mode the generator will charge till 80% and then turn of. And will turn on again after a 2km range drop. In the technical forum there is a lot of info about the charging of the battery.
But the no fuss option is to plug in when you can and keep it charged for the next drive.
If you have a fixed pattern, then you can optimize your charging with a schedule.
