Re: How empty can it go?

To fair, he did say "before it refuses to use the ICE" which implies it has been using the ICE up to that point. Exactly. At the beginning of the test, the batteries were "fully depleted", i.e. they were at the level at which the car will fire the ICE to keep moving in Normal mode. However, ...

Re: Did Mitsu confuse "Save" Mode and "Charge" Mode Above 78 mph (125 km/h)?

What do you mean by "Save mode actually prefers series mode much more than Normal mode"? If your engine is already running there is ONLY a series mode or the more efficient parallel mode over 65km/h. Normal prefer pule el. propulsion, Save is ruining series or parallel mode in intermittent manner, ...

Re: Did Mitsu confuse "Save" Mode and "Charge" Mode Above 78 mph (125 km/h)?

Since you already know that the only thing it can really do (in fixed gear ratio) it to use the generator to dump excess power into the battery, why you have doubt that putting extra power into the battery improves the overall trip fuel efficiency? There isn't any other option. I think you missed t...

Re: How empty can it go?

That's further than it will go on the battery from 'full' to 'empty'! :o Surely a typo? Not a typo. After it drains the battery and decides to use the ICE again, it will run another 30-40 miles behaving fairly normally, with the exception that you cannot enter Charge or Save modes and the display i...

Re: How empty can it go?

I've done this several times: - When there are about 30-35 miles of gasoline range left, the "refuel" warning comes on. The gasoline pump symbol starts flashing slowly. There is 1 bar remaining at this stage. - At about 25 miles of gasoline range, the gasoline pump symbol starts flashing quickly, th...

Re: Did Mitsu confuse "Save" Mode and "Charge" Mode Above 78 mph (125 km/h)?

Littlescrote, he is saying exactly the opposite. He is complaining that in very high speed the SAVE is constantly charging the battery. I can't confirm STS134 findings since never had the urge or necessity to push it over 125mk/h but probably over the observed threshold the engine produce excessive...

Re: Did Mitsu confuse "Save" Mode and "Charge" Mode Above 78 mph (125 km/h)?

Seems normal to me. There's only so much power available from the ICE, and if you are using a large proportion of it to go so fast, how do you expect to get much charge out of it? Huh? I understand that any charging that occurs at this speed will be somewhat slow. But the issue is that it's actuall...

Did Mitsu confuse "Save" Mode and "Charge" Mode Above 78 mph (125 km/h)?

I was going down the freeway at a continuous speed of about 85-95 mph (136-153 km/h) yesterday for about an hour, and I noticed some VERY strange behavior from my vehicle. ABOVE 78 mph/125 km/h, the behavior is as follows: Normal mode : Vehicle uses clutch to connect engine directly to wheels. Gener...

Re: Charging

Many thanks, I take it 3 1/2 hrs is the minimum charge time no matter what charger you use. Well, no. The charger you're using, and more importantly, the voltage you're using, matters a lot. The charger that comes with the car (Level 1, 110-120V) takes around 8 hours @ 12A and 12 hours @ 8A. I have...

Ouch! Mitsubishi Outlander #1 in Drive Battery Degradation

https://www.tflcar.com/2020/06/ev-battery-degradation-news/ Not surprisingly, the worst degradation happens in PHEVs and not BEVs, due to the much lower battery capacity of the PHEV, much higher cycling, much higher average depth-of-discharge, and insufficient energy to maintain the temperature of t...
