Re: What CAN I tow with PHEV

https://www.sae.org/standards/content/j2807_202002/preview/ And where in this doc does it say that it is only applicable to pick-ups - not in the introduction (NB. I'm not going to pay $85 to read the full version) As it says it is a standard for use by manufacturers to enable comparison between veh...

Re: Real-world tests of hybrid cars show higher-than-expected emissions

Which is why in London we lose our exemption to the Congestion Charge in October. I only use mine as an EV, as I live in Inner London, unless I travel to the provinces, but users from outside the capital currently get the benefit despite chocking us to death once they get here - I doubt many Save th...

Re: What CAN I tow with PHEV

Looking on-line and specifically the AAA website, which details towing regs state by state (US) and by province for Canada, I can't find any reference to towing weights laid down by law. But as previously posted, it is suggested the standard is about driving up a slope from a standing start. So, as ...

Re: What CAN I tow with PHEV

If that is the test in Canada (unlike UK where it is to do with kerb weight) then the PHEV, like all EV power trains, might well struggle to comply. There have been numerous posts about failing on slopes from a standing start - and its inability to be able to mount a kerb - without a "run up". You n...

Re: What CAN I tow with PHEV

This is a complaint shared with Land Rover owners in the UK, when the law was changed here, so that a vehicle was not allowed to tow a weight greater than itself - presumably to prevent jack-knifing etc. However, the real Land Rover was design specifically to do this and many people, like farmers wh...

Re: What CAN I tow with PHEV

What you can & can't tow is bound by the legal requirements of each country not the car. So the limit given in the UK manual, or applied in Australia is irrelevant to you in Canada. I'm sure there must be Canadian websites which will tell you what your legal limit is and the units it is expressed in...

Re: Ran out of gas but depleted battery got me home

History is littered with businesses that "get it wrong" - I repeat, Betamax. This was a technically better product but that didn't help it survive. :ugeek:

Re: Ran out of gas but depleted battery got me home

The real problem with fuel cells is the infrastructure needed. Electricity is already universal and can be generated easily from a variety of local sources. Petrol and diesel are produced as part of an existing worldwide petrochemical industry and very cheap (before taxes). It can also be stored and...

Re: Ran out of gas but depleted battery got me home

However, there is nowhere in the world where electricity is not already available, which is why fuel cells are NOT the future.

Re: Not automatically switching from battery to engine

I find the OP rather odd - ALL the motorway driving in EV?

Even if starting with a full battery and from near a motorway you can only get about 15 minutes max driving at normal motorway speeds!
