In the UK, the purpose of vehicle registration is to know who the "keeper" is NOT the owner. This is to avoid arguments over who is responsible for incidents involving the car. And unlike a simple hybrid you will continue to burn petrol when stationary or would be otherwise coasting. As a result you will get a similar consumption figure to the dreaded "engine started" phase, when I have seen figures down to 12 miles per gallon :o Oh, and once the battery is full, of course...

Simplest way is an extended test drive (on the flat, urban speeds, 10c temp) to see how far it will go in EV with a full charge. Over 30km suggests it is OK for age of battery under 20km and it is getting tired. :idea: .
