Hello,

I drive an Outlander PHEV 2018.

A few weeks ago, I had a hard time closing the hatch - it would pop open as soon as it was supposed to close. I tried closing it 3-4 times, then pressed the unlock button from the driver's door, and then it closed fine.

The day after, I found a crack on the bumper, about 2" from the lock latch, exactly in the middle.

Could the striker have hit the bumper and caused the crack? The dealer is investigating this as we speak, but I know nothing as of how the locks work, etc. and they seemed reluctant to considering a lock failure.

Thanks!

Sounds to me like there was an obstruction stopping it close (sometimes my boot liner fouls it - especially if I have lifted the floor panel to get at the storage area underneath) and cracking the bumper "solved" the problem or the obstruction fell away. I can't see how a misaligned catch would reach the bumper and still close.
