I used to use an iPhone 5 with mmcs and all worked well, including that if I received an incoming text, I could reach into my shirt pocket and press the home key and ask Siri to read me that text message. I could even ask Siri to generate a reply. Then I bought a new iPhone 8 and although I have pared it and it receives incoming phone calls ok and I can make calls using my vehicle and mobile phone books, when I press the home key on iPhone, Siri comes up and mmcs switches radio off but no speech goes to the iPhone and Siri.
Has anyone seen this problem? Anyone found out why speech doesn't go to the iPhone under those circumstances. I noticed that iPhone screen could ask hands free or iPhone but neither allow the mic to pass speech!

Did you switch on all the permissions in Settings? I found that these problems are more prevalent in the newer IOS versions. My 11Pro refuses to play sound over MMCS Bluetooth for some apps.

I find it quite flakey. For months Siri would come up and immediately turn off when I pressed the side-button on my 'X', so I couldn't use it. I even posted on here asking for suggestions, but without success. But recently it has started working as expected. I've not touched any of the phone settings, but something has changed

I'll try setting up "Hey Siri" I hadn't set that before, though I used it on my old phone, so that could be a difference.

:) :) BINGO!!! Thank you very much jaapv That's the problem and its now solved.

In settings under Siri & Search there is a switch marked 'Listen for "Hey Siri"' Thus has to be set to on. I don't use Hey Siri much and at first I thought the switch meant that Hey Siri is active all the time and not just when plugged in to power. Well it does mean that, but it is also necessary to work through mmcs system.

Anyway - thanks to all.
