LeydenJar is the first in the world to produce a pure Silicon anode material, which will make Li-Ion batteries about twice as efficient. They expect to scale up to industrial-level in two years. It will shrink batteries in half, or make them twice as powerful, removing the main problems in many applications, including electric vehicles. https://leyden-jar.com/

The silicon rolls are in limited commercial production right now and they say that they have secured the investment to scale up to mass production in two years time. We'll possibly see the result in things like smartphones and cameras first, in EVs a few years later. It is known that the whole industry is working on replacing copper-graphite for the anode by silicon to make an efficiency jump, but these are the first to make it work.

I'm really looking forward to it. Lease on my car is about 2.5 years left. I'd take over to private in case of battery improvements with plan for a replacement. Upscaling by factor 2 alone would make a real difference. It may just fit the schedule

I'll believe it when I see it. If it were to be very close almost overnight, it would almost instantly render the value of 'old technology' very low

In the meantime, I might buy one of these as a second car to avoid the London Congestion charge, which PHEV owners will now have to pay from 25 October.
