The recent cold spell in the UK has let me try out the heated steering wheel. My first impression is that the heat is mostly experienced at the "20 past 8" position rather than the "10 to 2" recommended in the Highway Code. Is it just me, or am I holding it wrong?

I find mine gets uncomfortably hot quite quick so can only be used in short bursts. Or perhaps it's just me that has sensitive hands :?

Hadn't noticed the heat being focussed more on the bottom than the top but definitely the top and bottom of the wheel on mine are not heated, just the sides.

Actually, 20 past 8 seems to be the recommendation in some places.

Rally drivers seems to keep their hands low, so I guess its nothing wrong with it. I suppose that as long as one hand is not holding a phone it does not really matter.

Anyway, it may stop a deployed airbag from breaking both your arms...

10 to 2 is no longer the recommended positions to hold the steering wheel, that's old scool. Due to the airbags in modern cars 15 past 9 or 20 past 8 is recommended. At least is Sweden.

From the brochure, the area are:

I am 70, have owned 71 cars & have never had a heated steering wheel. What a waste of money , in the U.K. at least. IMHO!
I hope that Mitsu have addressed the single glow worm high beam headlights on the new one. Even with Osram Nightbreakers on my 15 model the high beam is only 50%as good as the Yeti HIDs. SKINFLINTS :D !
So much useless trivia on the car and so many shortfalls. Crap lights, power socket in boot etc etc.
Whinge over!

I have one on my current car and really like it. Don't think I'd buy another car without it TBH.

I'm with Carnut here. Wear gloves if you get cold fingers. Or use Viagra to improve peripheral circulation. Works for fingers as well.

But you probably need the curve warning turned on so that you just don't go straight on at bends!

Actually my steering wheel warms up in exactly the same positions when I pre heat the car using heat, not defrost with the feet and face mode set and the face vents open. ;)

But most likely, it is also your fist car that is supposed to be able to drive with the engine off. For 'normal' cars, I wouldn't want it either. But for this one ...

But Carnut will almost certainly, like me, have had cars with useless or no heaters when younger but seems to have forgotten how cold the solid plastic with metal core steering wheels were in winter even if the UK - remember steering wheel covers?

I do have a rather natty pair of M&S leather driving gloves, which I wore when I owned a Jaguar, but I prefer having the wheel in my bare hands, I also like having the heater on in the car to bring the temperature up, I could in theory just wear a down jacket to keep me warm instead.
