Charging with an extension lead

Good evening

I am taking delivery on my PHEV tomorow and have realised that the cable supplied wont in any way reach a plug socket in my house. I have no choice but to use an extension lead. I have called Mitsibushi and they have said that this is a big no no etc but I cant believe this is not possible.

Has anyone else on here been using an extension lead and if so could someone suggest where to buy one which is suitable.

Many thanks in advance..

Re: Charging with an extension lead

several here have done it - you need a good quality genuine 13A cable and fully extend it. If it is left partially coiled, it will heat up.

Maybe a fully waterproof socket as well?

Re: Charging with an extension lead

quick search for "extension lead" should give you plenty of helpful comments as some use it everyday. Many of us use an extension lead, myself included. Mitsu cover the thing in warnings and they are correct, but I've used this in rain and more - I use this one as its 13A rated:

http://www.diy.com/departments/masterpl ... 295_BQ.prd ( or here http://www.screwfix.com/p/masterplug-he ... -10m/44635 )

Seen this since I got mine and like this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Outdoor-Extensi ... sion+cable

and I also bought a 2m cable protector (the rubber strip) to cover it on occasion. All fits in the boot space with the charger.

Love it! Please tell me when you are in a rush you sometimes slide down the cable from your apartment 2nd floor window (whilst singing batman/superhero/fireman tune)?! I'm jealous!

Ingenious method though, keeps it off the pavement/sidewalk.

Maybe I'll start connecting the cable thru the sunroof! That way I can slide and sit in one move :D

And some people claim they can't plug in at night because it's not practical! Great pictures!
