I've been away for a week and when I came back and tried to open the boot, it opens but as it gets to the top it beeps and the boot then closes. Even if I turn off the automatic function, it still won't stay open.

Does anyone have any idea on what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks.

My guess is that a pair of lift gate struts are in your future. If the automatic lift gate has them.
Just my guess.

That's interesting, it feels as if the boot is actively closing but do you think it's the struts that have failed and so it's just the weight of the boot that's closing it?

As Jaapv mentioned, it might be the obstruction sensor acting up, but if the gas struts have failed, and not supporting the weight properly, it might trigger the sensor into thinking there is an obstruction and it will start to close again.
