Driving the car over hilly ground , looks like i managed to damage the rear EV battery casing , First we noticed was there was no heat coming from the heater , i put this down to possibly a blocked filter , then after a 5 min drive the RBS light lit up and she went into limp mode

car is at the main dealers , initial diagnosis was two crimped water pipes restricting flow , The Service engineer said the reat battery casing is cracked allowing in water , they are going to contact Misubishi for advice as to whether its go to a battery specialist for replacement battery box ?

any one encountered this and is it a potential big bill thanks

conclusion is if you have a PHEV extreme care should be taken over rough terrain , its not like an outlander diesel 4x4 the undertray is extremely exposed , a cracked or damaged undertray could result in the need of a new EV battery pack , this will not be covered under Mitsubishi warranty , at $10k you have been warned

Ouch! I assume the cells are still ok, did you manage to keep them as they would be worth a bit on the EV marketplace?

Thank you for the head up.

Here is an Outlander PHEV just finished 2000km rally in California (Rebelle)

I think they raised the car but not sure if extra protection in the batteries has been added.

$10k is really hard to swallow. I hope your insurance helped you with the repair.

WARNING!!!!
Just had this fault occur on my 2022 Outlander PHEV VRX a few weeks back, panicked so stopped safely on the side of the road. Then car refused to start, so had to get it towed to dealers. They said it had a flat 12v battery which was odd, as it started fine minutes earlier, and was using the motor to climb the hill i was on.
Got it back car was sweet for two days, then same fault, so this time i just drove it to the dealers some 40 min away. They plugged in the computer while it was still left on and got a bunch more fault codes. They then saids they needed a special resistance measure tool. A week later they said the battery is damaged and its $24K NZD to replace the EV battery! I've just driven this on Sand, gravel and Kiwi roads! No offroading, or accidents! All i can recall is about a year ago I hit a random possum at night as it ran across the road suddenly. There was no faults or issues and car has been sweet for a good year after. Then this?? It seems there is zero battery protection under these cars, and the small dent cause a cell to fault! Once this is fixed I will be selling this car, its not fit for purpose to be sold in NZ. THe marketing and sales said it can go offroad, mud, sand, snow, etc and show it doing stuff ive never attempted, but alas I've been without my work vehicle for weeks, and lose my no claims as well as excess to fix! Why sell a SUV 4WD that has zero protection for a vital part!!
WARNING TO ALL OTHERS!
