Damage to ev battery box

Sat Oct 10, 2020 3:39 pm

Driving the car over hilly ground , looks like i managed to damage the rear EV battery casing , First we noticed was there was no heat coming from the heater , i put this down to possibly a blocked filter , then after a 5 min drive the RBS light lit up and she went into limp mode

car is at the main dealers , initial diagnosis was two crimped water pipes restricting flow , The Service engineer said the reat battery casing is cracked allowing in water , they are going to contact Misubishi for advice as to whether its go to a battery specialist for replacement battery box ?

any one encountered this and is it a potential big bill thanks

Warning driving on rough terrain in a PHEV

Thu Oct 15, 2020 8:52 pm

conclusion is if you have a PHEV extreme care should be taken over rough terrain , its not like an outlander diesel 4x4 the undertray is extremely exposed , a cracked or damaged undertray could result in the need of a new EV battery pack , this will not be covered under Mitsubishi warranty , at $10k you have been warned

Ouch! I assume the cells are still ok, did you manage to keep them as they would be worth a bit on the EV marketplace?

Thank you for the head up.

Here is an Outlander PHEV just finished 2000km rally in California (Rebelle)

I think they raised the car but not sure if extra protection in the batteries has been added.

$10k is really hard to swallow. I hope your insurance helped you with the repair.
