EV Mode

I just purchased an 2021 Outlander PHEV Sel with 7k miles on it. I'm assuming it hasn't been driven in months. When I press the EV Mode button I get a message saying "EV MODE NOT AVAILABLE". The car will go into EV mode on its own but I can't seem to press the button and put it in EV mode. Is this user error or should I take it in to the dealer to get diagnosed? Thanks for any advice.
