That's right - the Outlander is limited by its on-board charger, which is power rated at approx 3.5 Kw (~16A x 240V). The cable's own rating doesn't change this, so a 32A cable will charge at the same rate as for 16A. To charge any faster you would need the 32A cable PLUS an up-rated on-board...
I'm just back from my first significant road trip - 450 miles to Galway City and back, almost all of it at 80mph (indicated) on empty motorways. Didn't get a chance to charge during the trip so I had an empty battery except for the first 20 miles. Overall I averaged 28mpg. Car was fairly full...
As an ex Nissan LEAF owner, I'm a bit wary of keeping my MY16 Outlander charged to 100% for longish periods of time. This was a complete no-no for the LEAF, which is why lots of LEAF owners either charge to 80%, or time their 100% charging so that it finishes just before they need to drive the...
Thanks - does the GX4h use the electric heater instead of the ICE to warm the car during normal driving, i.e. instead of the ICE starting up? I thought the electric heater was only used during pre-heat phase, but perhaps I'm wrong.
I assume that the electric heater in the 3h+ is of the resistive type and not a heat pump? In my Mk1 Leaf the heater uses 2-5KW of power in cold weather. I always thought that burning fuel to heat the cabin was of comparable efficiency and therefore I also fall into the 'not bothered' category...
I've pretty much decided to order a new MY2016 3h or 4h, but I'm struggling to choose between the two variants.
Unfortunately, there's a pretty big price differential (4k-ish) between them and I don't particularly like or want leather seats which seems to account for much of the mark-up...
