8 years of battery use and counting....

We have had our MY14 PHEV since July 2017 and had 43,600 miles on the clock. Will be clicking over 151,000 miles in the next couple of weeks. SoH on the battery is around 67% and can still get about 18 miles pure EV urban driving (approx 15 miles on motorway @ 60mph). No longer rapid charge due...

    Full tanks range test!

Had this happen to me once, heading into work. Pulled away at a roundabout and loss of power, me thinking, hmm, a bit sluggish, what is happen? Hugely lucky as I was 1.5 miles from a rapid charger, but in rush hour traffic. Headed straight for the charger, foot flat to floor was getting about 10...

    ScottishPower EV Tariff.

Hmm, that's interesting. I just looked again at the Scottish Power site and, for some reason, it is no longer offering that tariff for me even though I am going through the Electric Car Charging page. When I looked yesterday, it didn't show a reduced rate overnight either, so wonder if that is...

    ScottishPower EV Tariff.

I have just looked at Scottish Power EV and, personally, I think there are better deals around. I have been on the OVO EV Everywhere tariff for 2 years and will probably renew with them. I pay 11p/kWh (ex VAT) whereas Scottish Power are quoting 16.5p/kWh. With OVO, they also include free Polar...

Wifi and Navigation in outlander 2014

Another option you may want to consider is a mounted tablet - this is the route I went. While my car has the navigation built in, I found it out of date and very clunky so always used Waze or Google Maps on the phone. However, as I had an old iPad 2 that wasn't really being used, invested in an...

Are dealers simply ignorant, or dishonest?

I still break into a grin pulling away from a boy-racer fossil at lights as they continually drop back each time they have to press the clutch! That's what I love about this car, just instant and constant acceleration from 0 to whatever. For a big car, I have certainly upset a few 'sporty' types!!!

    Full tanks range test!

There is always that argument about driving faster / costing more compared with setting out an hour (or so) earlier and saving fuel. I have done a couple of unscientific comparisons along a 40 mile stretch of motorway I use regularly, between setting cruise at 60mph and 70mph. It worked out that...

    Full tanks range test!

I know, as owners, we are a little biased! However, I have to agree. In 2010 I bought a 3L Mitsubishi Shogun (1997 model) for £500 on eBay. Living down a 1 mile farm track in the north of England, had many occasion to rely on its 4x4 capabilities. At 23mpg it was a thirsty beast. Around 2007...

    Full tanks range test!

Coming up to my 2nd anniversary of owning the PHEV and, for the first time ever, recently set out on a trip with a completely full tank of fuel and fully recharged battery. I do this trip quite frequently (central France to northern England) but often find myself having to stop every couple...

D-Method on really stubborn cars or the A-Method :)

Good to read your experience @MadTechNutter. I reset my BMU a few days ago and have driven nearly 400 miles since and was wondering if the behaviour I have been seeing is "as expected". Some things I have observed: 1) Prior to reset (32 Ah capacity), cruising at @ 90km/h, the ICE would kick-in...

    Experiences Towing

I can really relate to your post - have towed our 1300kg twin axle from the north of England to central France a couple of times and the MPG was . . gulp! 900 miles one way and 17.8 mpg or an eye watering 228 litres of fuel! Overall, I was happy with the performance, although some of those hills...

D-Method on really stubborn cars or the A-Method :)

The D-Method has worked for me too! I partly started going along the "A" method using an old car battery, but that only had 6.5v and I wasn't able to get a charge into it. So, decided to revert to the D-Method! Firstly, I thought I had messed this up. Here's what I did: 1) Main drive battery...

Lindqvist method : DIY BMU Battery Reset

I have been pondering this 'fix' for a few days now and I still come back to the same questions. 1) What mechanism tells the charger to stop charging? 2) How can the actual capacity of a battery be actually known? So, I have done some digging through academic papers (as a mature student, I can...

Lovin' it ! How's your gas mileage?

I often do long road trips (1300km in 2 days) without ability to charge and have tried different things to try and improve the mpg: 1. Along the motorway, switch to charge mode on uphill sections - leaving electric mode for downhill (with combo of B0 and / or ACC at set speed to regen) and...
