How to start up the car in cold conditions without the ICE firing up:

Probably the most FAQ of FAQ's... Start the car without touching the brake pedal. When the warning "press brake pedal" comes up, press the EV button The car will go into EV mode. Then press the brake pedal and the Start button. Disclaimer - this is for European models with an electric heater...

The return of the Outlander PHEV

Good news: Mitsubishi will reintroduce the PHEV in the EU in 2024. It will be built in France by Renault, like the Spacestar and the Eclipse Cross. So my dealer told me today.

What a difference a tyre makes

When I bought my car last year (less than 15.000 km) to replace my 2013 model it came on Pirelli Scorpio Verde All-Season tyres. Pretty impressive I thought, if only the name. By now and 10.000 km later I was totally fed up with them: uncomfortable, noisy, the car was twitchy on the straight...

Battery technology has turned a corner

LeydenJar is the first in the world to produce a pure Silicon anode material, which will make Li-Ion batteries about twice as efficient. They expect to scale up to industrial-level in two years. It will shrink batteries in half, or make them twice as powerful, removing the main problems in many...

Just found me a "new" one...

The present one being 7 years old, with 150.000 km on nthe clock, I asked my dealer to find me a replacement. He just bought this one for me, about 5000 Euro under the going rate. Mid-2019 2.4 ICE, 15.100 km, Instyle German spec. Very happy, it will arrive end of next week.

Tyres - winter and summer - or not. A review.

I had Michelin Cross-Climates fitted - They drive incredibly well - and then I found this review. Now I'm even more happy :) And 75.000 miles? These things are really cheap in the long run. https://www.greencarguide.co.uk/features/michelin-crossclimate-all-season-tyre-review/

Battery degradation? - No, a musical car

I noticed a rather pronounced drop in range over the last weeks. i was mildly worried - but then, the car is six years old and has done 135.000 km, so I could not really complain. Then, yesterday, it developed a rather harmonious whistle on right hand turns and later another one on left hand...

    Rear light units from China

I cracked my rear light unit against a branch reversing. I did not even inquire about the price from my dealer, but just got one from AliExpress. It looks like it was made in the same factory. The only difference I could tell is that the LEDs emit a slightly deeper shade of red. Fitting was...

    The PHEV of the future?

Not an ICE plug-in hybrid, but a fuel cell one? Mercedes already has it. Sorry, it is in German, but Google Translate may help out.: https://www.golem.de/news/brennstoffzellenauto-der-mercedes-glc-f-cell-das-suv-fuer-das-gute-gewissen-1907-142347.html

    Mitsubishi introduces Dendo Drive House

Wich basically integrates our PHEV with our solar-powered households, mainly by a storage battery and bi-directional charger. Very interesting :) https://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/en/innovation/motorshow/2019/gms2019/dendo/

    Dash cam for Outlander PHEV

I’m not sure whether dashcams without GPS exist. Speed and location are essential part of the recording, should it ever need to be used legally. What is your problem with it recording your speed? I seriously doubt whether it can ever be admissible as evidence against yourself. In fact, it takes...

    PCP help

There are different providers of financing. Don't just rely on your dealer's offer, he gets a percentage. Get a few offers in and compare. Often talking to your bank will save you quite a bit.

    Geneva Motor Show

Interesting report with a funny mistake: -they confuse the Citroen 2CV with the Renault 5. https://edition.cnn.com/videos/business/2019/03/19/electric-cars-aston-martin-lagonda-pininfarina-citroen-ami-geneva-motor-show-orig.cnn-business/video/playlists/stories-worth-watching/

    Broken exhaust

A clear weak point: the flange of the exhaust pipe to the manifold. Although the joint is fixed with springs, my car managed to break the weld. Obviously late Friday afternoon before the Saturday that we planned to leave for Italy. Super service by the dealer: they ordered the pipe overnight and...

    Broken MMCS

From one moment to the other, the touch-screen on the MMCS died, making is unusable. The strange thing is that it still reacts to a tap fron time to time, but with random results. The dealer is going to consult with Mitsubishi on Monday. My diagnosis is a dead digitizer.

Driving conditions: Heavy snowfall, -7º C, hilly roads. 4WD lock on, ECO, Charge. 3 bars of electricity, two of petrol. Suddenly both guessometers display --.-- . Restarting the car doesn't change it. Filling up the tank restored it to normal. Can anybody explain this?

    Summer-time! No PHEV for me...

It is such a pleasure to drive a car with only one transistor on board - in the clock... :) My current daily transport. No computers, just nice black dials, no automation whatever (OK the direction indicators have an automatic return - sometimes-). turning the steering wheel when parking builds...
