    Update from Gary Reed

I've always enjoyed Gary's video's. So sad that Mitsubishi will not support their vehicles or honour their battery warranty.

Return to EV mode after gas engine starts

I guess someone needs to do a test to confirm this. I say it is a timer because it has always been the same amount of time for me regardless of how hot or cold the car is. If it were temperature based you would think there would be some variation in how long the engine runs for?

Return to EV mode after gas engine starts

Once the engine has started it continues to run on a timer (approx 5 minutes). You cannot stop that unless you pull over and turn the car off. The car probably still had the EV mode selected. The problem with the new (>=2023) cars is that the one button just cycles through the different options...

Cold Weather No-Start Work Around - Scheduled Warm Ups

This is a 2023 newer model year issue. We owned a 2018 and never saw any cold start or EV power reduction problems. 2018 has an electric heater. 2023 only has a heat pump that does not turn on below-15°C.

    New Gen Battery Removal PDF

Thank you for posting the link. Looks like it will be easy to service/replace. Any idea why they don't show any battery cooling systems having to be disconnected? Is the thermal management system optional on some models? I've seen three documented cases of Hyundai/Kia replacement batteries being...

Which fuse in 2023 PHEV for DashCam install

Mine is always powered. Haven’t had any issues with battery drain.

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

I got the letter and update installed two days ago. Have not noticed anything different yet. The charging rate and charge time was the same. The battery cooling kicked in the same as it ever did before. Temperature was around freezing. Guess we will just have to wait and see when we get the next...

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

I can only imagine what the discussions were like between the Mitsubishi engineers and management about this when the car was developed. I'm sure it was a management decision to not include a battery heater. Now it is a "told you so" moment.

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

Follow up video. They still are not getting the heat pump cut-off temperature correct. It is -15ºC. Ya, it might not be that good above that temperature but the cut off is -15. Also have not had any too cold to start at -20ºC battery temperature. Most report it below -30ºC.

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

I've owned Tesla S,3 and Y over eight Alberta winters and never had a problem with them starting in the cold. Also had the 2018 PHEV and it didn't have this issue. The Bolt did have this issue but at least it had a battery heater that would work if you plugged it in. -25ºC extreme cold? Not...

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

It is a bit of a catch 22. From my experience the only time the battery temperature increase is if you charge or discharge it. So I think for some folks that have reported not having issues they have started charging when the battery is still warm enough to accept charge. Then with the added...

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

I drive my Tesla in those conditions all the time. Nothing likes -40ºC. But Tesla has done a lot to help over the years. The battery pre-conditioning feature targets +55ºC for fast charging. As long as you anticipate the added consumption for that and the cabin heat, road tripping is not an...

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

Block heater? Ours never came with that option. Shows how poor the communication is from Mitsubishi to the dealerships. We experienced this issue last winter. Fastest fix would be to do a software update that lets us "turtle mode" the car to a warm garage.

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

Would like to hear from everyone that is having this issue as to what Mitsubishi is doing to help you. Do they provide free tow to their garage, give you a gas car to drive, or just tell you to wait for warmer weather. On the other forum many owners mention that dealership tried to boost start...

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

I agree with Darren. Those temperatures should be ok. We start seeing the battery too cold to start issues around the -20°F range.

Cold Weather Performance - North American 2023

The heat pump just shuts off. It is -30ºC here today. I could make an another video if you like. When I pull it out of the garage (which is above zero) it only takes about two minutes for it to shut off. In that example the engine coolant would not have time to cool off much below what it was...

BMU Reset for 2018 Canadian PHEV. Alternate method idea

It doesn’t work for all vehicles. I tried it on a friend’s 2018 but it didn’t work.

Cold Weather Performance - North American 2023

I would really like the car to either tell me it has shut off the heat pump or start the engine automatically when that happens. The temperature display on the dash does not show the instantaneous outside air temperature. It can show my garage temperature for the whole drive. The heat pump uses...

Cold Weather Performance - North American 2023

The car is nice and warm in the garage. EV mode lets you drive with the heat pump on just fine up to -15º. Then without warning when it hits -15º the heat pump turns off and the HVAC starts pumping cold air into the cabin. So yes, I want to turn off the HVAC before it cools the cabin off. But...

Cold Weather Performance - North American 2023

Cold air is coming for much of North America this week. I still have not heard anything from Mitsubishi about fixing the heat pump -15ºC cutoff issue. Just yesterday the heat pump shut off without any warnings. So the cabin getting cold is the only indication and by then its too late to turn off...
