Fuel economy at highway speed phev vs ice model

Thank you for the video! The max EV speed is 140km/h or 87.5mph Tai

Fuel economy at highway speed phev vs ice model

When they finally upgraded the engine to 2.4L in the USA, the EV limit went up to 82mph, I think. And Atkinson cycle also switch to Otto cycle around this speed. Just wondering MY2023 what is the EV max speed? Tai

Fuel economy at highway speed phev vs ice model

MY2018 cannot go EV if we drive above 78mph :-) Tai

False Advertising - Class Action Lawsuit

A Mitsubishi dealer in Los Angeles ad for $7500… The fine print is leasing from Santander. Probably the Santander would give you some discount because when they got the car back after 39months, the $4000 fed tax is real to sell to next customer as a certified pre owned. I am holding MY2018 to...

Fuel economy at highway speed phev vs ice model

The ICE version do have gears. For Highway speed, it best matches the map for efficiency. The PHEV actually harvests the extra torque to charge battery and we know that it is not that efficient compared to parallel mode. And when the batteries are full, there is no more places to go… The RAV4...

Fuel economy at highway speed phev vs ice model

I think the ICE version has the gear that match the torque and rpm better than PHEV. Engine BSFC map.

Reviving this thread. Looking for data to compare the mpg of RAV4 Prime and Outlander PHEV at 100mph! Tai

    2023 North American

Thank you for posting MY2023 info here. My wife is hogging my PHEV MY2018 until I get her the Toyota RAV4 Prime. Instead I bought a Mirai :-) Without the Tax credit, it is really difficult to buy either PHEV… My plan in 2026 is to trade Mirai for RAV4 Prime (white) and trade Outlander PHEV...

    Forward Collision Mitigation false triggers

Thank you. I couldn’t dare to get the car close enough to test FCM. At end, doesn’t matter. The main battery was so tired (7miles) after full charge that I walked out of deal without test it with cardboard boxes. Next time… Tai

    Forward Collision Mitigation false triggers

I have been rear ended 4 times in high way speed, the last 3 in these 4 years. The insurance may qualify me as dangerous driver soon… I just hope my teen daughter gets some extra help to stop the car, and of course, NOT use the cellphone when drive! Good idea about the card boxes! I will do it...

    Forward Collision Mitigation false triggers

Tomorrow I am testing drive a MY2018 GT trim in Los Angeles. It is a burgundy color. It has the moonroof my wife like, the 1500W inverter that I like and the FCM for the safety of my teen driver. How can I test the FCM is working? This car has a brake disc redone in less than 40k miles. Very...

Can we clear up Serial vs Parallel drive?

Now we have computer to switch cycles from Otto to Atkinson :-) From Toyota marketing: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gD2AQuhbHdk I think the 2.4L only runs Atkinson at lower speed. At higher speed, the engine switch to Otto cycle to supply the power needed. We don’t get the 2.4L here in...

Do not be scared of using that charge button.

We have a couple of Californian with Outlander driving up and down the looong pass (Cajon/Tejon). https://www.myoutlanderphev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4842 https://www.myoutlanderphev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4624&p=51612&hilit=Cajon+pass#p51612 STS has been going up hill at 90mph...

Can we clear up Serial vs Parallel drive?

I think it is the reason the recent Outlander adopted Atkinson Cycle for better efficiency at broader RPM. Even at Otto cycle, the extra torque go to batteries so it cannot be less efficient than series drive. What I learnt to drive more efficiently is to use up 1/2 of batteries and go to...

    Damage to ev battery box

Thank you for the head up. Here is an Outlander PHEV just finished 2000km rally in California (Rebelle) https://media.mitsubishicars.com/en-US/releases/mitsubishi-motors-returns-to-rebelle-rally-with-outlander-phev-as-grueling-off-road-competition-goes-electric...

Can we clear up Serial vs Parallel drive?

Parallel mode is possible at speed > 45mph. My trick is “release” the torque in the transmission like I change gear in my bicycle. It works every time if the engine is warm Enough in the “charge mode”. Tai ps. Try search for the “series” instead of “cereal“ :-)

Flattened auxiliary battery - any consequences?

Is there any reason (besides the factory warranties) we can not replace the lead acid with Li-Ion battery? I am thinking LiFePO4, with BMS. 4 cells of LiFe match the 13.8V of Pb, in my experience. Tai

Engine light after level 2 charging

So the dealer actually DOES have a level 2 charger... Here is my buying experience with dealer: I went to show room and test drove a black one just a week before taking my wife to sign the paperwork. We were buying a white one. I then asked my wife to test drive it. For my surprise, the...

Engine light after level 2 charging

This dealer probably doesn’t have the level 2 charger to test the code. How does they miss the diagnosis just blaming EVSE that not on the list? It is a long way until dealers learn how to deal with (PH) EVs. After all these years, I still feel like an early adopter... Tai

Engine light after level 2 charging

Glad to see the code. I am surprised that even with TUV, the EVSE still can cause issue to our car! Maybe it is quality control, but I would not take the risk. The NEMA 6-20P actually is the perfect fit for our car. No room to future proof, thou. Tai
