    Goodbye and thank you

Just sold my PHEV which I bought new in 2014. I bought it primarily for London driving (including the congestion zone). I wasn't expecting it to be great but six years of ownership left me really impressed with its abilities and the thought that went into the concept and engineering. It really...

do you need winter tyres for the outlander?

I swapped out of the Toyos as soon as I could (25k) and have a set of Crossclimates on. Very happy - they are a much better tyre and for the sake of less than £100 over the Toyo replacements, in my view, great value for the extra capability and safety for the winter months. Costco is a good...

    Kuga to Outlander..views please!

My tuppence - 1. Assume you can charge at home. Makes a big difference on running costs and you can pre-heat for those Scottish mornings. 2. It's a bit bigger than a Kuga but quite narrow which is good for City driving. 3. 4x4 is good but splash out on Michelin Crossclimates as soon as you can...

    5th Service UK - cost?

The first quote I've had is £478 (out of London). A bit more than the £300 or so last year but presumably more work on the schedule. I might try a couple more garages.

    5th Service UK - cost?

There was a very useful thread on 4th service costs in the UK for Mitsubishi dealers. My 5th is due in June. Wondered if anyone has any experience/costs yet?

outlander PHEV 2014 free congestion charge and ULEZ ?

I have a June 2014 vehicle and it still comes up as congestion charge free- it goes in twice a day with no issues.

Buying a 2018 car ... is the 2.4 worth the extra

Just to add a slightly contrary view. I have a 2014 and did a side-by-side test drive. It is certainly improved but they are all marginal incremental improvements. The decision for me was whether to change - I get the 100% write-off but it is still over £30k out of my business - or buy it out...

2019 Outlander PHEV reviews and what we know

Criticising headlight performance is not altogether the manufacturers fault but US legislation. My PHEV came with xenon lights in the UK back in 2014 and they are pretty good. My AMG Merc has LED lights which are even better. I haven't had a car with halogen lights since 2000. Laser is the next...

    End of lease

Try getting a quote from webuyanycar. We had a similar situation last year albeit my company (my wife and I) owned the car so negotiating with ourselves. Wanted the lowest justifiable price from any source and webuyanycar provided it . I suspect their models rely on people being desperate for...

    Key Fob Battery

Just did mine at home. One was getting a bit weak on locking/unlocking. I did both - found a You Tube vid and sorted in about 5 minutes tops with a couple of batteries that cost about a quid for both. If one was being charitable to the garage, with labour at say £2 a minute..... But outrageous...

4th service in UK - cost?

I had a Mirage auto loan car a couple of years ago - it was truly awful. Therein lies the answer to why Mitsubishi dealers are a bit behind..... The success of the PHEV has caught them all slightly by surprise.

And five years too late. I wish Mitsubishi would crack on with a second generation model with better range.

    Winter tyres 16 vs 18

Interesting comments. I have the Crossclimates on my PHEV but have a separate winter set for my Merc GLC which I take skiing to the Alps a couple of times a season. Currently have Pirelli Scorpion winters which will last one more season but debating changing to a "winter-bias" all season for...

    Winter tyres 16 vs 18

I got the Crossclimates and impressed so far. Costco do Michelin and have £80-100 off for 4 offers a couple of times a year.

    Winter tyres 16 vs 18

Really interesting video on smaller vs bigger rims for winter tyres which for the PHEV is 16 compared to 18 inch. Conclusion is that the smaller rims are actually only marginally better in winter. Of much more relevance is the choice of winter tyre. In addition, as we probably knew anyway, they...

2019 Outlander PHEV reviews and what we know

Interesting comment in Autocar on next gen model. In my view, they need to get on with it and stop whinging about the loss of purchase incentives from the UK government. This car has been around since 2013 ,was way ahead of its time and hit the performance/price sweet spot given that the oppo...

    Battery pack replacement

I don't think battery pack replacement is really an economic runner. Any car that has run for over 150k will also have a host of other components reaching the end of their economic life (suspension, electrics ) as well as deteriorating rubbers, worn upholstery etc. Putting in a new or even...

Government scraps plug-in car grant for hybrids

In a sense, that's my point. The Outlander PHEV is basically still a 2012 design with a few incremental improvements. Battery tech has moved on - the Kia Niro EV at 300 mile range is probably 3x what you could get in 2012. What I'm suggesting is the same concept but new and more efficient design...

Government scraps plug-in car grant for hybrids

Instead of being "disappointed", Mitsubishi need to come up with a replacement with a 70 mile range. This car has been around since 2013 and has been a beneficiary of various incentives (as have I owning one since 2014 - when the grant was £5k) but the game has moved on.
