Yes, I agree, The most salient part of the message is "Should Mitsubishi have told you the range would decrease noticeably to protect its air cooled and tiny battery pack? I guess that is the question." Mitsubishi state in their marketing literature that the EV cruising range is 54 km. No ifs...

So? Mitsubishi should be concerned that one of their newer vehicles is performing poorly and offer to do something about it. Instead, they just tell me this is quite normal.

All I can say, having read all these responses, is the following. I live in an area where there are very few electric cars, but many people who are thinking about it. Seeing my Outlander PHEV they often ask me - what do you think? I tell them the facts based on my experience. - I've owned...

I agree 100%. This is the real issue.

I don't think you should blame the dealers. They've got to follow the Mitsubishi party line or they lose their dealership. They're probably all pretty pissed off that they can't even apologise to us and explain that there is a Mitsubishi head office directive to deny all knowledge about this issue.

I agree that the choice of an Outlander PHEV was, in retrospect, probably not the right vehicle for me. My most regular return journey which I do at least once a week, is 48km. And I thought it would be safe to assume I'd be able to do this petrol-free based on Mitsubishi's marketing material...

Well.......... My PHEV is 9 months old, only done 3,700km and the EV cruising distance has reduced from 54km to 42km in that time. Mitsubishi tell me that's normal.

Now. That is REALLY useful information. Thanks very much Katmandu!

    EV cruising range

The technician just told me that "the battery was ok" - no further details except that to expect a reduction in range during colder weather. Yes, I should have pressed him further. From the responses to this thread, and other enquiries, I've begun to realise that my perception of the battery...

    EV cruising range

The actual driven distance has always been within one or two km of the prognosed distance. The EV cruising range as indicated on the instrument panel after a 100% charge has consistently been the same as the actual driving distance. And that was true on purchase when the distance was 54km and...

    EV cruising range

Thanks greendwarf. I'm in a rural part of the North Island and the roads I travel are pretty benign. No steep hills. And there are no extreme temperatures. Rarely does the temperature go below freezing and rarely above 30 degC. And I'd prefer not to wait for summer. I feel that, for my...

    EV cruising range

A few times I've driven to the nearest city (275km return trip). After the first 40 - 50km of those journeys the battery is used up and I rely on petrol for the rest of the journey. I've used a fast charger three times. I charge at home after each journey, when the battery's flat. At an...

    EV cruising range

Thanks to all respondents; lots of useful information. So, forgetting about the guessometer, the bottom line for me is that when the vehicle was new the EV range was 54km (33 miles). Eight months and 3,600km later it is 43km (27 miles). So, what's changed? The same driver, doing the same...

    EV cruising range

Thanks very much for that Stevepl11. Although I haven't followed up your references yet, I get the impression that you aren't too surprised by my predicament? When I selected the Outlander PHEV over other alternatives, one reason was that 54km (correction from my initial post) EV cruising...

    EV cruising range

I've had my Outlander PHEV VRX for 8 months and done 3,600km. At new, after a full overnight battery charge (not a fast charge), the EV column bar was at 100% and the EV cruising range was given on the information panel as 56km, consistent with Mitsubishi's literature. Over the past 8 months...
