Hi all,

I have lost one of the keys supplied with the car and got a quote from the Mitsubishi dealer for around £400 plus 30mins labour charge to sync the new key. A local key cutting outlet here in the UK has quoted just under £200, for an off label version. Is this a good idea, or should I stick with the Manufacturers Genuine one?

I have a 2023 Outlander PHEV and wanted a third key (we have 3 drivers in the family).
Ordered a "blank" (not synced, no logo) replacement keyfob on ebay (US site) with the same FCC ID:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/235115348910

Went to my dealer, told the sales manager what I paid ($30 US). He was all ears, went straight to the parts counter and asked what Mitsubishi charges them for a replacement fob - answer was $300 (so your £400 quote sounds about right after dealer markup).

Sales mgr then asked a technician to see if my cheap version works, and would you believe it - 25 min later I had my fully functioning third key fob! They thanked me for finding a cheap source and didn't even charge me for the programming. I didn't dare to ask them to cut the emergency key.
They might source these keys now from ebay and charge unsuspecting customers full price...

Again, this was in the US, you'd have to look what you can find in the UK, and then find a dealer/locksmith to sync and cut it. To be honest, I was quite surprised that my dealer was even willing to mess with a third party part.

What year is your vehicle?

Thanks for the reply, it was very helpful and has given me confidence to go "off piste". Mine is a 2018, which seems to have fewer options. I have contacted a couple of specialist online locksmiths i the UK to get quotes.

In case, you have 2 keys and a "blank", you can program third key by yourself.
