Hi Trex,
No, I’ve not had the cross-axle situation as yet. I’ve been very careful to avoid it, given the worry about how it will perform, but suspect it is only a matter of time until I can’t avoid it any more. The off road work has been mainly rough tracks and very wet muddy fields in...
Oh dear! That is very bad news. I wonder why they omitted such a basic function of all wheel drive design? It is a shame, but there you are. The car has already depreciated by 60% in a bit over 2.5 years, so I guess it is a question of either live with the serious design flaw or swallow the loss...
I’ve seen the lack of cross-axle braking for my 1st gen quoted, but can find no reference in the manual or online. Where did you get your info from? If it’s true, that may be enough to make me switch to a Discovery Sport, as I need the car to be able to cope with light off road work.
Thanks for that. I am aware that you cannot transfer power between axles as there are separate motors. What I am not sure about is whether it will brake a wheel in the air on an axle, sending power to the other wheel, or whether it does not brake the wheel and justs spins the wheel in the air...
Has anyone come across any YouTube videos of the PHEV in a cross-axle situation? I’ve tried a few searches but all that comes up are the diesel Outlanders, and one video of an idiot who doesn’t seem to know how to drive off road. I’m interested to learn how the 1st gen PHEV responds as there are...
I’ve read many times that the PHEV cannot handle cross-axle situations due to the open diffs. Has anyone come across any YouTube or similar footage demonstrating this? I’ve tried a few searches but nothing relevant comes up.
As far as the UK goes, it was I who got an email (Safely archived!) from Mitsubishi UK stating that my 2015 PHEV was covered by their new traction battery warranty. I double checked that they understood it was a 2015 model and again they confirmed (this was after the previous assertion that the...
A final update. I’ve now had the PHEV out in snow and ice, wet muddy fields and rough muddy tracks. On the Geolandar G015 A/T tyres, with ASC off when in deep mud, it has been absolutely fine with good traction and going everywhere the other AWD vehicles went (But not the serious mud slingers...
Well, as promised a quick update on the performance of the PHEV off road on the Yokohama G015 AT tyres. I’ve had a few days on shooting estates so far, with today being very wet and muddy in the fields. So far, when engaging 4WD lock and turning of ASC in mud the car has behaved very well...
I found no difference in road noise. Difficult to tell regarding fuel consumption as the Toyos were near the end of usable life (and thus would cause less drag) but I can’t say I’ve noticed much reduction in EV range.
Advice from a Facebook PHEV group seems to be leave ASC on until you get near mud, sand or deep snow, and then turn it off before entering those terrains.
On previous threads last year I bemoaned the off-road performance of my PHEV when going around shooting estates, but found it was OK when I took it around the easy sections of an off-road centre near me. As another season starts I have had Geolandar G015 all-terrain tyres fitted as the only...
