Battery wear

Just out of interest, how much wear on the battery does the stop/start system in hybrid mode create? I'm assuming that it runs off the lead-acid battery not the lithium drive one?

Reason for asking - I used to have a Ford Kuga and had had to replace the battery after it died suddenly at only about two years old. A mechanic who came to my rescue told me that I should switch off the stop/start because it wears batteries out! So I did.

IC engine start is handled by the main drive battery. The lead-acid is not man enough to deal with this, it's only there to power up the electronics at start up. For the same reason, you can't jump start another car from the PHEV (although the PHEV can be 'jumped' if all the batteries have run down).
