Mystery Interior Light

Got my 5h recently. Steep learning curve! This great forum has been a massive help. My query is that there is a light between interior light switch and sun roof switch that I can't figure out. Sometimes it's on and other times off. Searched user manual but no info. Thanks

I believe it comes on when the outside lights do for orientation

This question crops up every year or so - and nobody has come up with a convincing explanation as to what purpose it serves. It seems that it is a requirement in some markets and Mitsubishi simply fit it in all cars rather than have multiple lamp fittings in their inventory.

The manual calls it a downlight and says nothing more about it. Searches don't turn up any very convincing answers. I find it not bright enough to illuminate anything, but bright enough to be distracting. Think I might stick something over it.
