Why charge the battery while driving?

Fuel gauges are not 100% accurate, or at least the manufacturers don't want to have to ensure they are 100% accurate. If the "miles remaining" ticked down to zero, you'd get people who had 2 miles left then went up a steep hill (thus plummeting their MPG) and running out before they got to the...

    PHEV Charge Mode

Yes, very normal. I've never had a brand new car before the Outlander but I believe that the difference is the smell is burnt off very quickly on a car that only uses the ICE, whereas a PHEV uses the EV a lot so it takes longer for the smell to go away because the ICE isn't used all the time. It...

    Home charging point installation

If you have the 7KW charger you can charge in about 3.5 hours, although it depends on your own circumstances if this would ever make a difference to you. If you get a tethered charger there's a bit less hassle plugging the cable in and less worry about securing it.

Make sure you measure out where the charger will be in relation to the vehicle. I wanted a tethered charger but it turned out where we park the car is about 50cm too far away for the 4.7m cable on the ChargeMaster unit. So we had to get an untethered unit and spend another £168 on a 10m cable...

Maximising the range on the battery?

Mine says 26 mile (~41km) range after charging, as long as the AC/heater is off. Turning that on drops it by 5-6 miles.

    PHEV driven without keys!

On an older car with the same "as long as key is nearby" technology, one time the car dropped off a passenger who had the key in their pocket and the car was able to drive 20 miles to its destination. It was then stranded because they didn't have the key to start it. Another time we drove across...

    New Owner, with some questions

I had a zero-VED diesel before my Outlander - you get the same reminder and you do the same process online to renew, except there's no cost. Make an account for Zap-map and/or get the app. You can then set your vehicle and it will filter the map for chargers that will work with the Outlander...

    Extended Test Drive (UK)

I had pretty bad customer service from the Brighton branch. They implied they would charge me more for maintenance/repairs if I bought my Outlander elsewhere, and when I declined to buy saying I had a cheaper quote elsewhere, the guy sent me a shirty email saying I was "rude" and "frustrating"...

    Home charging point installation

Yes, Mitsubishi officially say "no extension cables", but I did some research and more than one person said they'd been using extensions with no issues. As long as the cable is good quality, and is fully unwound during use (it gets warm but not dangerously so), it works fine. And as I said, it's...

No Dashboard Clock when power is off

Yeah, I think your solution is to press the Power button without the brake pedal being pressed. That turns on the displays etc without "starting" the car.

    Home charging point installation

I'm using a domestic 3-pin cable while I wait for the tethered 7kw charger. I am definitely looking forward to the dedicated charger so I can just plug the cable in and be done, versus: 1. Open house window, hang extension cable out 2. Get charging cable from boot 3. Plug charging cable into...

How much did you pay for your OUTLANDER PHEV?

I used CarWOW to get 5 quotes from "local" (within my region, not that local really) dealers. The cheapest was about £7,100 off list price (including the £2,500 government grant), so in the end I paid about £34,500 for a 2016 4hs. A decent deal, I think. I also paid an extra £500 for the 3 year...

    Home charging point installation

I'm waiting for the same £199 package (as above) to be installed by ChargeMaster. As far as I can tell this is definitely the best value as Mitsubishi owners get a free upgrade to a 7kw charger. They ask for photos of your consumer unit/fuse box/etc, and told me that I needed to have a...

    Mitsubishi First

I just bought an Outlander in the UK. Mitsubishi First is a "post accident" service where they deal with your insurer for you, arrange your car to be towed, arrange a courtesy car, etc, free of charge. It's for anyone who owns a Mitsubishi, even a used one. That is not the same as the...
