Idea to stop ICE from starting when cold

Someone sent me a log from a 2016. There's 4 PTC heaters inside. Not sure what the effect of changing values in the message is as of yet, It draws 13 amps on 220V or so from cold so not far off 3KW photo host I've documented it here...

    0x188 with 03 50 A2 4D 00 00 00 00 turns on the electric heater in a 2016+ :D 0x285 is also required (00 00 14 21 90 FE 0C 10 ) but is a general HV status message.

Nice work, there's loads of use cases for a can man in the middle. I've seen them used for battery upgrades, inverter and charger swaps.

Thanks for the responses, was worth a shot. We'll have to explore other avenues to get a log or hope fuzzing picks up the correct message.

If you pm me your address I can send you some hardware to play with, pre programmed for logging then you can do what you want with it.

That'll work no problem. Do you need help with the sketch? Just Serial.print ing the ID and messages bytes would be sufficient and very much appreciated.

How much would it take for you to make time to grab a log?

littlescrote, are you able to record a can log with the electric heater running?

You'll likely need something on the HV can bus, it'll not make it over the gateway to the ODB port. An Arduino Due, a can transceiver and SavvyCan is what I use. An automotive oscilloscope such as a pico scope can also decode can, an Arduino UNO and a MCP2515 can module would also be sufficient

Is your DBC published anywhere? Does anyone have a log with the electric heater running?

    Identifying CanBus parameters

Anyone have a can bus log with the electric heater? I have one to use in my EV Beetle to keep me warm, hopefully. 0x398 is broadcast by the heater, byte 3 contains water temperature with the looks of it. I'm not sure what message is required to get it to heat up.
