Door bleeping

I have a 2018 PHEV Outlander. I can't work out how to have the radio on without having the car doors closed!!!! If I want to use it when parked, engine etc off, I have to lower the windows to get air and press the start button once to bring on the ancillary electrics. If I open the driver's door it triggers bleeping that won't stop until I shut it!

Am I being stupid, or is there really no way of using the infotainment system when parked with doors open?

It's a feature designed by the Japanese polite society so that people don't annoy other people. It's a good thing generally.
