Purchased 3 metre Type 1 to Type 2 cable, and regretting it. There are so many occasions where I'm needing to park at an awkward angle in order to get the cable to reach. Number or car parks where the charging bays are not equally spaced between the two bays.

I've found http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EV-charger-cable-Type2-Mennekes-IEC-62196-to-J1772-32amp-5-metre-Leaf-etc-/141524989618?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item20f38bf6b2#shpCntId this on ebay.

Any wisdom about this being a 32amp cable for Nissan Leaf? It should work yes/no?

Thanks

I find that quite expensive for a used cable that is still a bit on the short side. A new 6m cable will set you back 263 euro...

I would say that for comfortable use at public charging points 6 meter is an absolute minimum length to have.

That is expensive - they are only £165 brand new! - http://nuworldenergy.co.uk/shop/type-1-j1772.html/type-1-j1772-to-type-2-mennekes-cable-32a-5m.html

I have a 5m one and it has been fine so far, but then I always reverse into spaces anyway, and it is long enough to reach from that front of the car to the socket if you parallel park too (but to get the socket on the pavement side you have to park facing the wrong way...).

Plus a whopping £9.60 for delivery!

I didn't begrudge that at all - have you felt the weight of one of these things??? ;-)

I ordered 2 from these guys, a 5m to stay in the car for public charging and at work, and an 8m one to leave permanently plugged in at home. Both very good, only comment is that they don't come with tethered rubber end caps for the Type1 end like the EVSE cable that is supplied with the PHEV, but I got a couple of those from China for pennies...

The NuWorld site quotes the same cables for the Outlander as the LEAF - choice of 5, 8 or 10m lengths.

What's wrong with using a bit of 1.5mm flex on an external weatherproof single socket extension lead? I haven't tried this yet, but 1.5mm is good enough for 18 amps supply.

The OP is talking about a proper Type-1/Type-2 charging cable - apart from current rating and physical strength, they are five core cables.

I wouldnot be surprised if the eBay offer would have delivery slapped on to it as well...
