Hi All,

Just briefly, what's the small square of green tape in between the front interior lights above my head? ...and should I peel it off? :)

Also, (and the outlander is my first Mitsubishi) what's the minuscule rectangular orange lamp next to it? is it to shine some light over the gear lever?

Thanks :D

The piece of green tape is protecting the passenger ejector seat button.

You are correct that the orange light is to help illuminate the centre console at night.

Ps Sorry, I haven't a clue about the green tape, I assume mine was removed by the dealership.

The use of that Orange light is not that clear. This is not the only car that has it. I was told by my Jaguar dealer (which had the same light) that it was an orientation marker. My present Mitsubishi dealer simply doesn't know.

The more I think about it, the less plausible it seems that the little orange light is there to illuminate anything. It seems far more likely to me that it is there to signpost the internal lights and help you find them in the dark.

The orange light is (supposed to be) a mood light.
It's referred to in the manual as a "downlight". Unless you've been sitting in pitch black for ten minutes, it seems less than useless. Or is it my tired old eyes? :(

Green tape - no idea, mine never had it. But it did have lots of (presumably) parts stickers on various panels and furnishings. Not sure what they were, I can't read Japanese!

Yeah, I should probably put a bit of tape there on mine. I've lost my wife and a couple of the children while trying to open the sunroof. I've got it sussed now though - as soon as I've fired the ejector seat I know I just have to move my finger over a little bit for the sunroof.

So if you roll the car you know what way is up?

I have a similar light on my Toyota Auris HSD. It is not amber but rather LED white on the Toyota and is meant for lighting up the gear lever and the handbrake. I guess that Mitsu has just copied that "feature" from Toyota.

Hi - I too had a square piece of green tape - as I had bought an ex-demo it had been there for 3 months - I took it off - nothing else has fallen of that I have noticed.

I have had one of those little downlighters on a couple of cars - it is supposed to provide a light into the area of the gearstick etc - as I live in the SE of England there is so much light you never see its use - but I used to work in the countryside in the peak district - with the dashlights very dim (or off) as it there would be a lot of glare in the blackness) the little orange glow from the area was useful (to find the sweets :)) - nowadays I doubt anywhere in the UK is dark enough to make it useful.

When it's pitch black the amber light actually illuminates the centre console a bit. Quite useful.
