So my PHEV resembles a golf ball after hail damage.
I had heard about baking paintwork not being good for EV batteries so I asked.
The guy said yeah yeah, Toyota, Nissan etc with batteries can't go past 50C. (Toyota would all be NiMh which is more heat tolerant I believe?)
I still think this is too high a temp for the PHEV battery, has anyone else had the discussion with a smash repair shop?

The article you refer to is about long-term temperature levels with the battery delivering power .
 
driving around Sydney during the last heat wave, i regularly saw 50 dec C from the outside air temp, im sure these sort of temps would have ben considered when designing the vehicle,
 
All people that test Lithium battery, normally they stop their test when temperature of battery reach 60deg ... as far as I know over 60deg battery start to get damaged ...

I'm sure AC that control the battery temperature start to be active above 40 or 50 deg temperature

I'm not sure which temperature is involved on baking painting ... but if this will keep the car for long time above 60deg temp .. this can short for sure the life of the battery
 
Tesla use battery very close to the Panasonic NCR18650B .. and this is the official specs (ref: http://www.batteryspace.com/prod-specs/NCR18650B.pdf )

Temperature
Charge*: 0 to +45
Discharge: -20 to +60
Storage:-20 to +50

Maybe it is over conservative ... but does give an idea about the confidence from the manufacture about which temp range to be used
 
That is clear, but again, storage is not the same as peak temperature for a shorter period, that figure is not given.

I have gear that has Li-Ion batteries in it and it has been cleared for a one-hour sterilization cycle at 137º C.
The official operating temperature is given as 0ºC-50ºC.

Anyway, I doubt whether the temperature of the battery pack would get anywhere near the temperature of the paint that is baked in during the period of time that the car is in the oven. If that were the case some interior plastics would be affected as well.
