They are ever so thin, when wiping off bird droppings and splattered insects cannot press too hard as the panels dimple, at least they pop back to original shape again rather than remain a dent. I presume this is to make the vehicle lighter to get more MPG just came as a shock was not expecting it.

makes me wonder in anysort of heavy prange how much these panels would cave it or split.

They are a bit flimsy - in strong winds a couple of months ago, our plastic dustbin was blown against the car and left quite a dent!

Its the same as the old model which we have, which is covered in small dents after a bad hail storm!

Modern cars are designed to crumple the outer skin for your protection. The so called crumple zone. This rated five stars with ease, so no reason to worry. It will look spectacularly horrible after a prang though ....

the hailstones is a worry, here on the IOW we get massive hailstorms can they actually dent the body work?

Our old Outlander is covered in them but it was a one-off ultra freak storm. Really hard to fix as they are in lots of places so although many would probably pop out from inside I would have to take trim off everywhere to get to the under sides. Should have got it done under insurance but wanted to keep no claims. Perhaps a specialist can fix them. Affected the bonnet, the wings and the rear pillars.
