How to operate heating in EV in Winter

Has anyone found how to operate the heating in pure EV mode. Yes I use the App to preheat,but often I only do a 10 mile journey with plenty of battery reserve,but always the ICE fires up.
If I am on a long journey ,no problem,hit save,use ICE, and EV later when warmed up,but short journeys,what do I do? Am I missing something?
