Hi,
Hoping forum can help.
My 3 month old PHEV refused to start (go to READY state) on Tuesday morning.
It displayed the "EV System Service Required" but would not step into READY state and thus could not engage Drive.
Breakdown came out, tried pulling the battery a couple of times.
Checked OBD for codes but car was sending none out.
Also when plugged into charger, car would not initiate charge cycle and sat with same "EV System Service Required" message.
It was towed to dealers and has sat there three days with them talking to Mitsubishi Technical who cannot come up with anything.
Looks like they may have to send out a specialist, and no idea how long that will take.

Has anyone else suffered a similar breakdown and hopefully had a resolution.
Many thanks
Danny

Hi Dan,

even though I saw 6 service required screens including the EV service required screen, I still had the ready light, and no check engine light. The std OBD tool will not seem to get the error codes. It was not until the dealer updated the service tools did the error codes become accessible on my PHEV. I sympathize with you as my PHEV is still broken after over two weeks at the dealer. Is a real shame these cars rely so much on the computers to work and the MMCS does not have any diagnostic functions to help out. PS my car has almost spent 50% of its registered life at the dealer.

Since the majority of Outlanders clearly work satisfactorily, I'm puzzled why they don't simply replace every circuit board in the car - surely that has to be cheaper than providing you with a replacement while they fight with yours?

Thanks for the responses guys, doesn't bode well though :-(
It would have been less hassle if the EV System Service Required message came up but could still get to READY, I least I could have been mobile to dealer, and not had to wait around for flat bed truck and delivery of loan car!!
I'll keep this post updated as and when Mitsubishi come up with a grand plan.

And yes I'm with Maby as working in IT sometimes it is more efficient to replace the computer than trying to work out why it failed!!

I would have thought that Mitsubishi had some method of examining the actual computer code that is being run at the time of failure and seeing if it has run into a dead end and if not why it has called the error message to be displayed.
This will not be a function of your garage mechanic, or even within their skill set.
I hope Mitsubishi has provided a remote diagnostic link to your garage so that the factory can download and examine the resultant crash or error code back at base.
The fault may be in a sensor, electronic circuits, WIRING/PLUGS, or controls, the Outlander is a complex beast, and I worry about the level of skills available at anyone's local garage. (You will note I have capitalised WIRING/PLUGS as I am sure that this will give problems as the cars get older)

Vehicle fixed.
The issue? A relay behind glove box with bad or loose connection.
Internal firmware not able to detect it.
Only discovered as Mitsubishi sent dealer a long list of things to check.
Anyway back on the road.
Thanks for all responses

Alls well that ends well... It's a shame it had to be in there for so long, but at least it's fixed now.
