I realise that there is a sub plot within the 'rear power supply' thread but now that that has got me thinking about trackers I thought it might be useful to start a new thread.

My first 'casting around' produced this company whose products look pretty good;

http://www.back2you.com/vehicle-gps-tracking/car

They are undoubtedly not the cheapest but I'm always telling the fruit of my loins that 'the quality is remembered long after the price has been forgotten'.

That doesn't mean I go out of my way to pay as much as I can for anything.

The two products from this company that appeal to me are;

http://www.back2you.com/self-contained-gps-vehicle-tracker.html - a self contained battery operated unit that can be hidden just about anywhere but needs recharging every few months (also available via Amazon), and

http://www.back2you.com/compact-gps-vehicle-tracker.html which is a small wired unit.

Interesting,

I was looking at some cheap-and-cheerful Chinese units and the one I got from eBay was cr*p. Kind of always knew it would be, but for the price, worth a few pounds to find out if, in fact, they were any good and at what level. Also good to just "play" with.

This site seems to have a good selection of "approved" units (Insurance / Thatcham / Police) at affordable prices.

The ones you like also seem to have similar function units available on eBay

We used to fit trackers in our cars, but then I got to thinking and decided that if someone stole it, I probably don't want it back after they have smashed a window, hot wired it and driven it half way across the country. Better to let it go and buy a nice new one with the insurance money.

How's that gonna work?

If the car is lost the insurance has to provide a new one (completely new for the first three years in my case). If it is recovered they only have to return and repair the car.

Exactly!

Sorry guys, I was just trying to pull your chains.

:roll:

I thought there might be some sport available but this morning now that the Desperate Dan 'Owl Hoot Juice' has worn off I've lost interest.

Like a lot of people, I suspect, my interest in trackers probably flows more from my love of toys (and the PHEV is going to be the best for years) than the objective of frustrating the increasing numbers of thieving gits roaming the planet.

Anyway, back to the toys, hopefully....

You're trying to pull the chains of the wrong people. Jaapv and Maby are the biggest and two of the most knowledgeable contributors to the site. When you eventually get your car, the information they have provided, with others, will help you enormously. Please respect the forum, I am sure that we are all eagerly anticipating your input as a new owner to enlighten us on the aspects of the new model. You would feel a little disheartened if you got a response like that ;)

Just think 18% middle-gray. About the colour of the wallpaper of this forum. I'll happily post a photograph - but I'll have to vacuum the thing first.

And there was me thinking that dentists would be fastidious about cleanliness. Not bothered about the floor space - a picture of a leather seat back will do :D

You are a creative photographer after all :lol:

Ok - Photoshop instead of the vacuum cleaner :D

OMG! What have they done to your steering wheel? It's on the wrong side! :shock:

Agree completely. Would make it impossible for me to drive that car, no steering wheel, no paddles and no pedals, wouldn't get very far :?
