Agreed. I did a test with my wife driving. Regen in B5, the brake lights did come on. The car is a high end spec built in Feb 2014 for Australia.

This is a good point to note about the screen lock. I had noticed that when this happened the app stopped working/lost it connection to the car. So I kept the screen active for the 10 minutes during the update and I saw the update complete. But I do not know what the update did.

I have also done both the pairing and a software update and as Uptodat has said, the 10 button presses in 10 seconds from the moment you start ACC mode seems to be important or the process does not function. It took me 3 or 4 goes each time. As for the software update, I have no idea what it did...
