Bluetoot connection failed

PHEV manual says it uses v.2.0+EDR Bluetooth.
I was using until now Galaxy S Advanced with v.3.0 Bluetooth without problems,
now changed to Galaxy A3 with v.4.0 and no connection at all.

Description of Bluetooth says 4.0 is downwards compatible to 3.0, but not 2.0.

Any chance for a go-around of this problem,
or I have to change the car every time I change my phone?

At yearly inspection upgraded MM firmware and connection works fine now.
