Whilst installing seat covers, I noticed that the carpet located under the drivers seat appears loose and only attached with Velcro to the front carpet section. If I push down on it a gaping hole appears! Is this normal?

Just been to look at mine - it's the same! The carpet looks like it's been cut to accommodate something, but what? It opens to reveal the metal floorpan about 3 inches below. Very odd. But a good hidey-hole!

I am reading this to state there is just the floorpan below the carpet and no foam etc to hold the carpet up?!?

Yep, that seems to be the case! Very strange. Can't see it being a LHD/RHD thing - it's way back towards the rear passenger floor. Might have a deeper look tomorrow, there must be a reason for it. Perhaps access to something just out of sight?

Mine is the same.

I dropped a screw for my dashcam which then inconveniently rolled between the floorpan and the carpet.

I didn't want to listen to that during the next 4 years of the lease ... retrieval required specialised usage of cuss words followed by sticking of adhesive plasters to my hand :(

Thanks for all the replies. I visited the car dealer this morning and they said the carpet unclipped itself and rectified it on the spot.

Now to enjoy the vehicle...

Unfortunately they did not know. I checked another car on the lot and it was the same.

Anyone on here know the reason or have a contact at Mitsubishi?

Hi All....

If not mistaken thats where the 710W amplifier for the 9-speaker Rockford Fosgate audio system sits.......sweet.... :p
