I am looking to try to purchase a charge wallbox to take abroad so I can have one fitted in a holiday home where I want to plug the PHEV into.

Does anyone have any ideas or costs as to where I can purchase one please preferably with a cable and plug assembled.

No worry with voltage being different and we have a friendly electrician who will arrange installation..

What power feed will it need - 32 amps?

Many thanks in advance

Alan

I had the initial version of the first. After two years intensive outdoor use, it is broken now. I am replacing it with the second.

For the Outlander PHEV, a 16 A version is enough. If you are looking at future-proofing, you may want to consider 32 amps versions as well.
Don't know about resellers in the UK.

I've seen one on ebay but some time ago now. Claimed it was new but unused. I seem to remember it was expensive too nearly as much as a complete grant aided installation.

Found this just now.

To be honest, the supplied charge box will work just as well, if you fit an outside socket to your holiday home. You can even fit a British type and avoid adapter hassle.

Thanks very much for the replies.

The link to ebay is also very helpful.

I do not really want to use the 13 amp 3 pin plug too much as its very stealable and if I lose it - it will be difficult while abroad to suddenly get a new one.

I liked the look of the Rolec version and will call them to ask a fit your own price.

Do you guys think is just needs the 230 volt tails connected to a new supply ?

Many thanks

I obtained two Rolec 32Amp units from a member on this forum - not sure where they originally were destined to fit. Maybe not fitted as they had a type 2 connector. I changed them to a type 1, and fitted both myself (probably get in trouble with the electrician's unions for that - as if I care!). Just need connecting to your consumer unit/fuse box with the appropriate size cable. Easy job, if you take the usual precautions when working with electrics. They came with a remote access unit for transmitting charging info off to somewhere or other, but that was a stand alone unit, so didn't need fitting. I've still got them if anyone's interested.

Not very stealable if you drive your wheel onto the lead... Internet sellers have 24 hours delivery on replacement charge boxes.

If you call into your local CEF (City Electrical Factors), show them the details. And they'll order you whatever you want from Rolec.

My Building Company needed a few, and we deal with CEF a lot, and ordered through them. Delivery to store with 3-4 days.

They don't have an account with them, but should be able to call them up and do one-off orders. Each region has their own buying division for CEF.

I used 6mm cable into a 40amp RCBO. This was less than a 5m run.

Thanks Steve - very useful. Can you give me a rough idea of cost please?

Regards

Alan

From memory, £340 + vat for a 32amp 5m tethered version and lockable MCB cover. Add a kw/h meter was another £20 ish.

Range of colours and options too. The green/white is standard.

Easy to fit and full guarantee included.

Supposed to be having a 32A Pod Point installed on Friday, paid in advance (always a mistake) and 20 minutes ago got an email suggesting I would need to pay an additional £60 + VAT for 'trunking' and £30 + VAT to 'upgrade' my earthing.

With regard to the trunking its difficult to understand how any installation where the distribution board and installation point are up to 15m apart (this is the maximum distance that is included) would not require some trunking so why the extra cost? My installation is around 5m between distribution board and installation point.

With regard to the earthing upgrade my own companies electrical engineers have stated that, from the photos sent to Pod Point, it is impossible to assess the suitability of the earthing.

Has anyone else had the issue of hidden charges being added at the last minute? Not impressed!

Pod point installation complete and no additional charges incurred after all - I'll put it down to miscommunication.

The installer was excellent, on time, quick and tidy and very friendly - now all I need is something to charge........
